Help me with the waiting game

I am a light weight... and have been at surgery target weight for a month. I had no idea that it was going to take so long to get a date.
First of all when I met my doctor, the staff told me, "Don't worry, it won't take long... you'll see"so I went home hopeful.
Went to my support groups, pool party next support group/clothing exchange, which by the way was a blast. Going to my monthly John Muir Support Group in Walnut Creek tonight.
Soooo... I called the surgery scheduler today... to see.......if perhaps......... she might be able to give me some enchanted....lol....idea of how long...

I got the call about a half hour ago... "hello... this is the surgery scheduler... is this Kristen? I answered yes. She reminded me that the doctors have surgery twice a week and clinic and see patients in the hospital and had not looked at my chart yet. She could have left it at that.. and I would have been ok... but NO.... she went on to say.... You know Kristen... most people wait 6 months to a year to have surgery.. I did remind her that I was 4 pounds away when I met my surgeon and hit target a week later. She said..."Look for the light at the end of the tunnel" I am so defeated .

Well... she had no idea that besides that funky statement... my car limped to the shop today. I had to pu**** out of two intersections myself at one point... well, I did finally get help from some nice guys after they saw me pushing this little red car... only to get to the shop and find out that the crank that the engine sits on is shot. My unemployment check did not come, and it did not end there...

Help me keep my mind busy so I get thru this messy time. Please.

Kristen,

Saying prayers and holding good thoughts.  I am so grateful you are working again and doing something you enjoy doing.  Hang in there, it will get better.

Surgeon's office.  Since I don't really know the office, is it big enough that they would have an office manager?  If not, ask to speak to the Dr to see if he/she can shed some light on the wait time.  If you've got all the pre-op tests done, have made their surgery weight and authorization has been obtained, what's the hold up?  Would it be prudent to change surgeons?

I'll keep thinking very good thoughts and I can't wait to see you later this month.

Hugs,
Barb

I know that the main girl in Fremont is on vacation right now so that may have something to do with it.  I did not have to wait 6 mos after i lost my weight.....it was weeks.
The girl is supposed to return mid Sept and that is when they release further dates for appts (not sure about surgeries)  I was told they are behind for appts.......so my one year I had to call them and ask why I had not yet gotten a call.  She said for me to call at the end of Sept and she would be back and the dates for appts would be released at that time too so dont give up!!  Keep calling.  Keep asking if your doc has reviewed your file.  Email him if you do the online communication thing.  Dont give up...you're almost there!

Nancy can only schedule someone, after the surgeon has reviewed the file. Even after review, it might take a month or two, depending upon availability of surgery dates. I only received 8.30, because someone else couldn't accept that date. Otherwise, my surgery would have been in September.

Send a SHORT secure message to Dr. Hahn, stating that you have been at your goal weight for a month, have completed all necessary requirements, and have been attending support groups. Ask him, if there is anything else that you need to complete. Also, ask him to notify Nancy that you would like to be placed on a cancellation list, after he has reviewed your chart. The new surgery dates are released at the first of the month, so October is being booked right now. Nancy cannot do anything until she has that approval from the surgeon.

I emailed Dr Hahn.. after my support group encouraged me last night to do so. Four of the members are his patients and really said... be honest tell him what your situation is.
All I can do is hope.
After that I guess I just put my big girl panties on and shut up.
I've done all I can do. so it is up to Dr Hahn now..

You have done everything that you can. It is now up to Dr. Hahn. I'm glad that you sent an e-mail to him. When he approves you, ask to be placed on the cancellation list.

Kristen -

sorry to hear about what is going on.  One thing I learned about the process it is a hurry up and wait game.   You won't have to wait 6 months, it may feel like it but it won't be that long.  My file was on Dr. Chu's desk for a little over a month before it got approved.  Remember it's still summer time & the surgeons are taking vacation time.  When they are only in the clinic 2 days week it does make it hard for them to get thru the files & have all of their appts.

Just make sure you keep the weight off, cause when you go in for your pre-op you have to be at goal weight or below or the surgeon can cancel your date.

Hang in there :), call me if you need to talk.
