I took Prilosec the day after I got out of the hospital. My surgeon has all of his RNY patients take Prilosec daily for the first 3 months post op.  I'd opt to take the capsule, as my Prilosec was in a capsule form.  I just drink it with a couple of sips of water. I tried breaking some larger calcium citrate pills I tried, only to find out that the sharper edges of the broken pill caused more issues than trying to swallow the pill without cutting.  DAVE

I too had to take prilosec and like Dave, I opened my capsule and mixed it with sugar free pudding.  It worked.  I also had to crush lots of meds, but found if I mixed it with jello or pudding I had no issues with them.

Good luck,
Barb

I am on the liquid diet until at least Friday though - I was under the impression that the pudding was part of stage 2 or puree diet?

Talk to Patty...bottom left.  The rules have changed at Coirin's office.  For the next week or so you'll be climbing the walls wanting to get active...but you need to let the healing process take place.  Brian

Tell me about it!! Today I heard music playing and actually found myself dancing a bit..then I was quickly reminded that I still have steri-strips and sticky antiseptic crud that doesn't exactly wash off.  I also figured out that yes, I am pain free but because of holding my body in favor of my new incisions, I'm not favoring my back like I usually do - well like a dummy I didn't have my ma pick up the liquid Lortab because it's almost $40 and not covered but OH MY ..we will be grabbing that tomorrow!!

I took OTC prilosec as soon as I got out of the hospital with no isues. It's a tiny pill. Most programs say pills the size of an M&M or smaller are okay. It's only the bigger pills they make you break up or crush.
