Peanut Butter
Hey Susan,
This is one of those areas that is so different for many people and it depends on the Dr's program/protocol. I tended to avoid peanut butter and still don't eat a lot of if due to the fat/protein/sugar ratio, but it's a personal thing vs a Dr suggested thing. My suggestion is call your nutritionist OR the surgeon's office and just ask them.
I remember thinking the same thing about eating a salad. I wanted one SOOO badly and the surgeon's program discouraged it for a long time. I asked my internist who is also specializes in metabolism for his opinion and he started me off on well cut up small portion (I mean really small) and I did fine.
Bottom line, probably the best course of action would be to consult either the nutritionist or the surgeon's office for an opinion. Hope that helps.
Hugs,
Barb
I agree with Barb. It's best to check in with your nutritionist. I ate nothing and still only eat 100% natural peanut butter that doesn't have hydrogenated oils. I think I was 4 or 5 months out before attempted to eat peanut butter and I have no problems. You might be able to eat it sooner, but I felt I wasn't ready until 4 months. I ate the smooth textured stuff too.

To talk to the nutritonist I would have to find one in my area who specializes in bariatric surgery, the one the surgeons office provides only does the classes they require before and after surgery for a total of 2, and to be honest they arent that helpful past the pureed stage.
My hubby had his one month appt today and I spoke with the dr directly about eating peanut butter and he was very encourging about it and told me to try it with apples and use very little incase i get a stuck feeling so advice well taken!! I will be trying this just very slowly :-)
