Well, I went to my orientation w/Kaiser today. It was such a snoozefest! They weighed me and took my heigh****ched a 10 min video. The lady lecturing us didn't really say much about the sleeve or band. But, she did say that the band could lead to lots of internal injuries and the sleeve was fairly new. There was only about 20 people and we were to be added to the waiting list of 98. She said there will be classes in Oct, Nov, Dec, and that there would be about 50 or so in each class. So, now I get to wait for the phone call. The kinda good news was that Kaiser is trying to contract with a local hospital in Bakersfield that already does wls. Then, i wouldn't have to go all the way to San Diego. I heard when you go to Pac Bar they would pay your mileage and allow your spouse to stay in the room? Then she told us that we didn't have to buy the Optifast as we could use something else. I suppose I've waited 20 years or so for the surgery, so to speak, so what will be another 6 months to get into the class, right?
Hang in there I am a Kaiser patient too. I went to the first orientation, I thought it was the real one, I was disappointed. I then did as she suggested and dowloaded the binder that you will get when you go to your class. This is the phone call your waiting for. By the time I got the class which was 3 weeks away.. I had read that thing so many times .
The class you will find out a lot more, trust me.The binder I mentioned, make it your best friend. I used high lighter pens and sticky notes in there with my questions, Each time I went thru stuff, I learned more.
When you leave the class you will be assigned a doctor.
Take this time to do the 1200 calorie diet. Get a jump on the weight loss so that when you meet your doctor you will be that much closer to your goal. It is unofficial, but none of the doctors will settle for less than 10% of your body weight (the weight you got weighed at orientation) .
By the class I had lost 9 pounds already.
I met my doctor last friday... and I still hace 5 pounds to loose. I am aiming to get it off in the next week, I have lost 1.5 since last friday.
Call the bariatrick center and ask nicely when is the next date. I did and I got in fast. I did not wait for them to call me. ASk to be put on the cancellation list any way you can wiggle in do so. The bariatrick center are going to be in your life a lot for the first year I hear, so I am making them be my best friends.

I have had some help here from a few Kaiser peeps and it makes it helped.

If you need any more help with Kaiser let us know... we are out here . I am just ahead of you... pre op  almost to surgery date. . As frustrating as it is... take a deep breath and focus on you and your weight coming down and you will be there soon!
