I'm so tiered
I had my surgery 6 days ago and came home 3 days ago. I find I get tiered sooooo fast, is this normal?? I took a quick shower yesterday and when I got out I was crazy tiered and dizzy, had to sit down for 10 mins! I also got on the treadmill earlier in the day yesterday for 10 mins at 1.5, I was exhausted after. I am on broth, water and popsicles now, but I get to start my protein shake and vitamins today. I know they say you will be weak after surgery but this just seems crazy lol. Is it me? Am I doing too much?
I can remember being very tired for a while after surgery.. You have to remember that your body hasn't had many nutrients for a couple days...getting the protein in and your vitamins and water on board will help. I noticed that you must get the liquids in or you will get dehydrated- especially if you are exercising.. allow yourself frequent rest periods but be sure to get up and walk around for a few minutes between those rest periods. If it continues you may want to check in with your surgeon or support team.
You just had surgery 6 days ago so besides still having anesthesia in your system, you have to recuperate. It would not be normal if you weren't tired. You will start to feel a bit better once you start getting protein into your system. It will give you some energy, but don't expect to really start feeling back to normal for at least 4 weeks.
As for the exercise, walking is good, but you should do it slowly and no stress on your body at this point. I wouldn't do any incline on the treadmill again for about 4 weeks. Give your body a chance to heal.
As the weight starts coming off and your body starts adjusting to your new lifestyle you'll start to feel like yourself again. But remember, it takes time and your body needs to learn how to live with your new lifestyle. You will be tired, you will not have alot of energy and your body will start to hold onto weight in another couple of weeks because it is in starvation mode. Don't panic, just remember it's all part of the process. As long as you are getting in your protein and vitamins, you'll be fine.
Now, go take a nap. You just had surgery.

I was very tired after surgery. I'd like to second everything Stephanie said. Also, don't push yourself on exercise so soon. All those muscles where incisions were made are healing. I pushed myself way too hard and ended up pulling muscles in my abdomen and lived with horrible pain for a couple of weeks. You will have plenty of time to push yourself in a month or two. I know you're anxious to start being a weight loss champion, but don't worry, it will happen.
Also, if you continue to be tired and dizzy, check in with your doctor. I was struggling with low iron and had to work with my surgeon to fix the problem. I felt horrible for many weeks, but lately my iron level is finally normal and I am no longer having dizzy spells. I have a feeling though, the lack of nutrients you're experiencing could be the culprit. I felt like crap until I started drinking protein shakes.
Be kind to yourself!

Whoa there little missy! You've just had major surgery...give your body a break! Yes, walk 3-4 times a day but take as many naps if your body requires it. I was advised to walk but not use any equipment for at least 2 weeks post op, even the treadmill. After a week, I was able to walk around my block once...took me 10-15 min, which at the time I thought was eternity LOL Most importantly at this point, get the fluids in...dehydration is no fun and can land you back in the hospital.
Each day will get better and your strength will return. Just give your body time to recover and take this time to learn all you can about the journey you have started. By all means, if you don't notice an improvement to how you feel after starting the vitamins and protein...call your doctor or email them! You will NOT be bothering them...they want the best for you.
Welcome to the Loser's Bench...and post often how you are doing. The best people in the world of WLS are here for you! ^_^
