Surgery in 4 days
My surgery is this Friday the 16th. I will be having the RNY. I am supposed to be on all clear liquids the day before and I have to take 3 tablespoons of milk of magnesia. I havent had any caffeine in 2 days and am doing pretty well. I am exited and scared. Does anyone have any advice or wisdom that they can share with me? Thanks!
Congrats on your upcoming surgery. You're almost to the loser's bench now
You're feelings are completely normal, I remember calling the nervously excited. It's nice that you only have to do the clear liquids for 1 day before, each surgeon is so different but as long as you follow what your surgeon recommends you are doing wonderfully!
Advice, well...
1. While we all have some advice to lend, it's always best to listen and follow your surgeon's protocol for the best success possible.
2. Pack light for the hospital, you won't need much. Loose fitting clothing to wear home, some folks find a pillow helpful to place on their tummy between the seatbelt. Carmex was wonderful because my lips got very dry. Slippers that are comfy to walk in because you need to start walking the halls to get rid of the gas. If they tell you to walk 3 times, try for 4. The more the better.
3. If you have an iPod or MP3 player, bring it to surgery. Of course check with the surgeon and anesthesiologist first but I wore mine in and it was in my ears when I was in recovery. It helped calm my nerves greatly. I know they took it out but it was wonderful.
4. Don't be a hero by not taking your pain meds like me. I am not too fond of being in an "altered state" so I didn't use the pain pump. My nurse reminded me that it takes a little bit of time to build the level up and to ask for it if I needed it.
5. When you get home, what my husband did was to devise a schedule for me. I ate on the even hours and drank on the odd ones. This worked great. Even if it was a TBS, I followed the schedule and it was a great way to keep on top of liquids and what I ate.
6. Also when I got home, I had hurt my back doing exercise so I took my Lortab... before I had eaten.... not smart! I ended up on the floor from fainting! Don't take pain meds on an empty pouch! LOL Fortunately, I feel pretty softly and my husband was there!
7. For best success, journal. Daily Plate, Fit Day, or OH all are free and help.
Read blogs of those who have gone before you, there is so much wisdom there.
Best of luck for a successful weight loss journey, we're with you ALL the way.
Hugs,
Barb

Wow Barb, that was great! You should print that so you have it for all the pre-ops.
Remember you are having major surgery and it takes a while to get your strength back so don't go home and clean your house or do anything too strenuous. Walking is the most important thing.
Keep us posted and if you have any questions please post them, I also enjoy looking at the before and after pictures.
We are all here for you so don't be afraid to join in any post or ask any questions (I know, I am repeating myself) There is no such thing as a stupid question!
Good Luck!

Hi and congrats, in advance, on your upcoming weight loss surgery (WLS). Dr Zorn did my RNY in August 2007 and he is a great person and doctor. Matter of fact all the other doctors and staff there are great too. You are in good hands with Dr. Zorn.

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!
We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they
ALL exist very nicely in the same box.
