Hello Everyone. I had my weight loss surgery on June 7th and since then lost 26 pounds. This week I lost only 1 pound. WHY? I am so upset that I only lost 1 pound, so it makes me think what if I don't lose any more weight, why is it slowed down so much? What can I do to lose more weight?

If anybody has any help-- Please.
I know it is only 1 week but I got a little discouraged.

Hey there.  Please don't get discouraged, your body is in constant readjustment with re-distributing water, weight etc.  When I was first out, I would have about 2 weeks of 2-3 lbs of weight loss and then sometimes none. This is VERY normal.

Make sure you are following your surgeon's protocol for eating.  If you are not eating enough, sometimes your body will gain because it is being starved.  Make sure your liquid intake is where it should be too, same thing.

Hang in there, it will all level out... I promise.

Congrats and welcome to the losers bench.

Hugs,
Barb

Thank you for the kind words. I'm starting to get more involved, I thought the doctors were crazy saying about needing the support from groups and others that had the surgery. I realized though that it is needed!  So I will be posting more it's nice to talk to people that have been thru it.

Make sure you are getting enough protein. You can't eat enough so you need to drink protein water, shakes, protein pudding etc. I went through a mini-stall about 3 weeks, luckily it did not last long. You are in for many ups and downs with this surgery. That is why we call it a "wild ride". Keep posting and join in other post, we will be here for you. I think during the first 3 months time seems to crawl by and then it goes faster. You hang in there and the weight will come off. 26 lbs since June 7 is great! Try to focus on the positive, I know it is hard right now. I got depressed around this time and that is normal too, you have been through a lot.

Keep us posted on your progress, we really do care!

:)  That is a no to all of the above. I can hardly eat anything because I am always full but I try. I eat alot of popsicles so maybe I get enough liquid. I can't find a protein shake that tastes good, but I do take my multi vitamin real well. I am getting use to this It's hard. Where do u find protein puddiing? I found fiber pudding thats it. But then again dairy does not go well with my tummy :(.

Thank you so much :)

I used and actually do still use on occassion products from this website I found.  Right after my surgery they were the products my doctor had his patients use and they are quite good.  Go to www.ishophere.biz You want to use their private label products which are the ones I'm talking about.  But they do have a wide range of all different kinds of products that I have enjoyed.  The puddings are non dairy as they are made with soy protein and you just mix them with some water.

I can't stress to you enough the importance of finding a way to get protein into yourself.  Without it your weight loss will stall, you will have next to no energy and your hair will fall out in clumps.  So even if you hate the taste of the protein drinks, drink them anyway.  You might try Unjury Unflavored protein and you can add it to anything and get more protein in that way.  Personally I like strawberry flavored protein powder blended with soy milk, a banana and some ice. Makes a frothy shake.  Also, World Wide Protein makes a ready to serve protein in a can that is pretty good.  I personally like the chocolate, watered down a bit.  It tastes a little like Yoo Hoo to me.

I agree with Steph you have to get your protein in some way. You can make Popsicles out of protein. I buy Cytomax from Bariarticchoice.com. It is sugar free, but whatever they put in it to make it sweet really works so I have to water it down. You have to just sip, sip, sip all day long. I also buy the protein powders from GNC. I get the ones that have 28 grams of protein per serving. I like them. When I don't get enough protein not only do I feel very weak, I tend to start getting depressed too. i have read that whey protein is the best protein you can have so look for things that are made with whey protein. I am sure if I am wrong I will be corrected! LOL

I know it is so hard at first, but you hang in there. You will become an "expert" soon!

Most people call this issue "stalls" when their wt loss stops momentarily. Patience is needed in this process. The wt loss surgery is only a tool towards wt loss. I'd also suggest attending support group meetings as this may offer you a better insight into the ways other post ops handle these stall issues. Hydration, exercise, increasing the amount of food you eat, changing foods you eat, etc. will work for different people.  There is no one set answer to your question. DAVE

Disregard if you have seen this before.  But for you new people who hit a stall for several weeks and feel frustrated that the scale is not moving the copy and paste below may help you...Brian  PS  Are you watching your carb intake??
Below is a copy and paste from DX...very knowledgeable man.  It might help.  He had said after WLS it is like decending stairs...

Still staying on-track calorie-wise? And the scale shows you stopping? Or Even Gaining?!?!? Re-Post Unsolicited advice/info-- Pull back from your ‘daily’ charting, and look at a weekly or even monthly. There are up and down spikes each day, But if you ‘graph’ the highest to the lowest, I’d bet there is still A downward slope over the course of the month. There’s an 8 to 10lb. volume of "wiggle room" due to water alone. And it comes into play a lot. This has to do with our bodies using glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, But it is stored in our muscles for quick energy – One pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, And the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, (Like when you drop down to your calorie intake) Your body turns first to stored glycogen, Which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, You also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it Voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of any diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, Your body starts to ‘realize’ that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue And burning fat for energy. But your body also ‘realizes’---- (by way of your liver releasing hormones signaling low Cal intake) ---That fat can't be used for short bursts of energy – Like, to outrun a saber-tooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, And rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, (Thus showing negative Calorie load overall) Your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while As you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. Yes? The whole ‘weight-loss’ process is not a straight "Slide" down the scale. More like "Stair-Steps," (Down then forward, then down, then forward, etc... As your body cycles fat out of "deep storage" and through the Liver Into the muscles as Glycogen. The muscles and Liver can hold about a 3 weeks supply. This is why many people find that their "Stall" or "Plateau" Breaks when adding a bit of exercise And upping their water intake, or in the case of an "extreme exerciser," The total Calorie or Protein Intake, To signal the liver to let go of more Glycogen. Fear not, many people who are now enjoying life at a normal BMI Once had a few weeks or so of thinking- "...my weight loss has been awfully slow, has it stopped..."? Hope this helps some. You are doing Great! Keep it Up! Best Wishes-Mike Wazowski Dx
