Square One - newbie here
Hi everyone :)
I finally got an appointment to go to Kaiser's information meeting on the 26th. I am so excited!!! I have been counting the days down more closely than when I was approaching my due date LOL!
So, I guess the steo after that is to contact my Dr. and ask for an appointment with a surgeon. I am thinking of waiting until then to tell my spouse - all of a sudden I am shy???
Anyway, I just want to geet this show on the road... I know there is a process but I just want to get started already!
I just realized my post has no point. Sorry ;) Looking forward to having more to say!

Welcome to the Cali board. You will find so much encouragement and great advice here. Everyone is so nice. The best way to get to know everyone is to join in on the post. By the way, your post is fine! You don't have to have a point but yours does, you are telling us you are new and are starting the process.
I would tell you to go ahead and tell your DH. You are really going to need his support through out this process and after the surgery.
I don't have Kaiser, but a lot of people on the Cali board does. I don't think they will set up an appointment until you finish the classes you have to take before hand. It sounds like you will learn a lot from these classes and it is worth your time to have to go.
Keep us posted, we really do care about your progress. Please ask any questions that you have. No question is stupid! We are looking forward to getting to know you better.
Good Luck on the beginning of your journey!

I am with Elizabeth. Tell you husband now. You will need his support and as in my case it took a while to get it, He didn't really understand the medical necessity and wanted me to keep trying the diet and exercise routing. It took a lot of education and tears for him to finally get it. Once he did, he has become my primary support.
Best wishes on your journey!

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!
We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they
ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Congrats on starting your new life, it is a wild ride!!! You should tell your hubby now so he can be part of your support, it really is important that you have a support team around you. All the people here on the cali board are wonderful and very supportive, if you need to know something ask everyone tries their best to answer :-) You may want to talk to some of the folks on the board who have Kaiser to see what the protocol is hopefully your journey to surgery will be a short one!!!
I assume you are in Northern CA? The process differs between Northern and Southern CA Kaisers.
After you attend the overview meeting, notify your pcp that you are interested. He/she will send a referral to the bariatric center and you will be scheduled for an orientation meeting, where they will review the different surgeries and the process that needs to be completed. Your appointments with the nutritionist, case manager, and surgeon will be scheduled after you attend the orientation.
Good Luck!

Hello and welcome to my personal favorite board on this site. Everyone is sooooo friendly and helpful. There is no question you can't ask, every topic is open. I have learned so much read others' posts. There are monthly get-togethers that are open to all.
I am not a Kaiser patient but a friend of mine is and she did very well with her RNY.
Again, just welcoming you to our little place in the sun....

Hi Ambie
Welcome to a great group of people who only want to help you thru your journey. Someone is always here to help you sort thru the process and answer questions you will definitely have as you progress.
Which Kaiser facility are you going thru? Fremont or Richmond? When you say 'information'meeting, do you mean 'orientation'? Have you asked for and received a referral from your primary doc? This is usually the beginning steps.
I myself went thru Kaiser Richmond (even tho I'm in Sacramento)in March of 2009.Fremont and Richmond have programs slightly different from each other, but both are way different that what is required in Southern California. Each have different requirements before and after surgery; however, the surgery procedure is pretty standard thru out Kaiser.
If you are going thru Richmond, I am happy to answer any questions you might have; if Fremont, I'm sure there are others here on the boards who have first hand knowledge. I have several friends who went thru Fremont and I'm sure I can get answers for you from them.
Again, Welcome! We're glad you're here and hope you keep us informed on your progress.

PS: tell your husband NOW...you will need his support! In fact, he should go to the information/orientation meeting with you!!
