So, I just needed to vent...

Got a call from Kaiser and they now have an appointment for me to have a physical the Friday before my surgery... So heres my layout...
July 20th preop
July 23   physical
July 28 surgery

Now this physical is brand new and they dont even know what they are doing... I asked what happens during a physical, they said to go over lab results and make sure everything is ok and a go... well hello... isn;t that a Pre op, or your consult.... Am i being selfish to have another doc apointment that seems pointless?

Hi Anna,

I don't know anything about Kaiser, so this is strictly speculation on my part, but your pre-op may not have anything to do with a physical.  I had a pre-op with the nurse in my doctor's office before surgery to go over my nutritional needs for right after surgery and then I had a final doctor's appointment to go over labs and just a final check of me to make sure I was physically ok for surgery.

This could be the case with Kaiser.  Again, I'm sure there might be some Kaiser people out there who could tell you more then I know.  But in the meantime, just try to relax.  Frankly, I'd rather be happy with extra doctor's appointments to be sure I was healthy for surgery then to be told the day of surgery to go home because something is not right.

Hang in there, July 28th will be here soon and then all of this will be over.

I have Kaiser, but they opted to have Crown Surgical Group do my RNY, at age 59.  I had many tests requested by my surgeon, and Kaiser performed the tests. The surgeon did request a 2nd opinion on my cardio review.  I had the pre op consult about 3-4 weeks prior to surgery, and another pre op 1 week prior to surgery---probably to gage my last minute recommended wt loss to reduce fatty liver deposits, which makes the LAP procedure easier for the surgeon.  You state this physical is brand new, and for some reason Kaiser must have thought it was needed.  It may be a nutritional consult to advise you of how you should try to eat and get protein after surgery.  My surgeon required this type of meeting, done a week or so prior to surgery. If you're having Kaiser do your surgery at Harbor City, it may be a new inhouse requirement. I guess you'll find out shortly. DAVE

i did all my preop back in february  but because i was declined and had to appeal it was may 28 before i got the surgery,  but part of the requirements was a physical with my pcp within a 5 day window preop and blood work so i think this is probably normal.  I had blood work done and my pcp visit on tuesday and surgeon visit on wednsday and surgery on friday,  Its almost over, soon you will have your sleeve and all the hoops we have to jump thru just a memory,  best of luck,  you're gonna be so glad that you did this,  take care and best of luck to you.  This is the best thing i ever did for myself.  Jeani

Hi hun,

Kaisers Physical and Pre-op are different.
At your Pre-Op they will show you around the area and hosptial, ask you silly questions, double check and mark if your missing teeth, if your allergic to anything. Answer any last min questions about your surgery or after care. You will pay all your co payments. Its LOADS of fun... LOL

At the physical, they will once more take your blood pressure, listen to your heart, lungs, make sure your physically prepaired for the changes. And finish any blood work that is not done.

oddly enough my Options classes made me have my physical BEFORE I finished Options.

God bless our troops
