Edamame at Big Lots

I had not been to Big Lots in a long time, today I took my 6 year old to get art supplies, on the isle with the peanuts and stuff I was excited to find that they had Seapoint Farms dry roasted Edamame. It is only $1.20 you get a 4oz bag, it is very light so there is a lot in a 4oz bag. A 1/4 cup serving has 130 calories, 10 carbs, 8 g of fiber, 1 g sugar, and 14 g protein! I love it for when I am craving something crunchy. I bought 6 bags but I think for that price I might go back and buy all they have!

I tried in vain to get a larger supply from Seapoint Farms of their Edamame for my support groups.  I ended up ordering them from a wholesaler back East.  But there is a difference in edamame's, beleive it or not.  Several support group members had tried the Seapoint Farms brand, and found the texture to be "powdery"--when the edamame is chewed, the product turns to a powder, mixed with saliva, and it becomes almost a paste.  The one that I paid to have shipped in has a different texture. It has more body to it, and when bitten, does not turn to a powder. It holds it's texture, and in side by side comparisons, the post ops who have tried them, like the non Seapoint Farms selection.  My profile page speaks about this, as well as my blogs and personal web site.  Dried peas offer a "higher crunch" than edamame, but the protein is only 6g per 1/4 cup. Hmm, hadn't noticed them turning to powder when chewed, they have the texture like peanuts. I like dried peas too but the edamame is great for getting in a lot of protein in a small quantity. I love it when I can buy something local and not have to wait for shipping. I did check out your site Dave, when I run out I'll have to get some from you. My parrots like them too.
