HI Everyone,
Im sorry i keep bugging everyone with questions but I just need to ask this one, well two, LOL .

Im 3 weeks post op and i noticed over the last day or so, everything i eat is nasty, it dont matter what it is, it all taste the same to me, I know your taste change after surgery but is it supposed to be everything??? Im not really eating because nothing is good, my protein shakes which i enjoyed are even gross, Help! im still on puree and i know the one thing i can eat im not supposed to eat, (corned beef hash) so any and all advice would be good, im starting to panic, since im not really eating to much and i have zip for energy.

Yep - right on schedule :)  What I found helped is to frequently brush my teeth.  Because my body was in ketosis (normal - you want this - its the body burning fat) it puts that funky taste in the mouth - and gave me NASTY breath.  It seemed to help... either that or I thought it did - LOL!

Two years from now you'll wish you felt like this again.  Trust me.  Enjoy it while it lasts.

In the meantime, there isn't a whole lot you can do.  That is why protein shakes are so important.  You have to get them in if you can't get anything else in.  I had some soy protein puddings that worked well for me.  I got them at my doctor's office, but you can also find them online (www.ishophere.biz) or probably at someplace like Vitamin Shop.  What's important is to try to get something with protein into your system because that will help with your energy.  Another thing I used was Sugar Free Instant Breakfast made with soy milk and sometimes added unflavored protein (Unjury).  I found that easier to get down then the protein shakes.

Hang in there.  It will all get easier for you as time goes on.

The first 2-3 months are rough for some post ops. Changes in tastes or sensitivities to food textures are the normal issues.  You'll recover from most of these issues, but there may be some foods you loved prior to surgery, that you'll find disgusting forever--it varies with the individual.  If you can find some purred or soft foods you like, why not add an unflavored protein to it. Whey isolate protein is normally considered best, then whey concentrate, then soy. If you have lactose intolerance issues, then avoid the whey concentrate.  I found a whey isolate unflavored protein that is generic and very affordable. It truly has no taste, and very minimual odor, if any at all. My fellow post op members of my support groups love this protein. They mix it with SF pudding, oatmeal, chili, veg. refried beans, mashed yams, etc., so it should do well with your pureed foods as well. The protein is noted on my profile page, on the blogs or personal web site.  Be patient, this is all temporary. Energy levels may be low with some new post ops, and in time, that will get better. Girl, I'm only a week post op and I can't tolerate anything, including protein shakes!  All my evil sleeve wants is a hard-bioled egg.... but I'm still supposed to be on full liquids.

It happened to me as well. I thought it was because I kept eating the same foods over and over. You liked the protein shakes? What kind?
