Any fat butt safe bike trails in the Inland Empire???
My HEAD is telling me that when I sit on a bike that my fat ass will elicit rude comments. I'm scared I'll fall...nothing like 250 lbs falling on a wrist. Never had a broken bone but I'm scared this will do it.
I'll be wearing a helmet and black sunglasses and am looking for an anonymous trail to go riding on. One that's SAFE, FLAT (omg it's been 15-20 years since I have ridden a bicycle lol) and empty but not TOO empty...
Anyone ever ride SART (Santa Ana River Trail?)
I'm just nervous.. my HEAD tells me that I have to be thinner to ride a bike... and to wear that skinny lycra outfit and shave my legs. I just want to wear short cargo pants and a tank top and tennis shoes lol
My head is telling me that FAT people shouldn't ride bikes. Of course it's fine for everyone else but one more time - when it comes to ME ... I'm the fat one that can't be seen in public with a fat butt hanging off a seat.
I think I just had to rant to get this crap out of my head. I can't tell you how many activities my fat butt won't let me do because it hurts but this time it's my fat head.
hmph
I have got to find a way to move past this!!
Does anyone ride their bike that lives in the IE?
Peace
Binda
Before I had WLS and weighed around 275 or so I was into cycling. I was crazy enough to even do a century ride from San Diego to LA...100 miles!!
As for comfort, you'll need some sort of padding. You can look for mountain bike shorts and perhaps try on men's sizes to fit you. They look like cargo shorts and inside there's a pair of padded briefs. If you plan to ride for a longer length of time you will feel the difference with out padding.
You might also consider switching out the seat on the bike to something wider or filled with gel so that it's softer.
I'm sure you can find both items on ebay.
Where ever you ride you will quickly discover that there are people of all shapes, sizes, ages and speeds out there on bike paths. You will not be the only plus-size butt out there... The same is true in the running community. There are fast, slow, old, fat, injured, experienced and beginner runners...but when we're out there we all look after each other. It's actually very cool. So I really doubt you will get rude comments.
The river bed trails like Santa Ana, San Gabriel and Los Angeles are good places to start. They're flat and are popular for both cyclists and runners/walkers....so be sure to observe the same rules of the road you would if you were in a car. (Pass on the right, signal etc) Getting some sort of bell or horn might be a good idea for safety too.
Good luck!!

Good Luck and have fun!
I did what others had said and bought a wider seat that is Gel Filled etc. I guess I am one of the wierd ones but I really dont care about what others think about what we look like on bikes.
I would be interested in finding out more about the SART and maybe starting a bike ride.....
Have a great day........Rick
