So, I am getting so frustrated...

Did anyone know they had sleep apnea and not have to get tested?

Here's what happen... I am with Kaiser and decided that I better get a sleep apnea test because my sister said that I have it, and should get it checked out... Now the sleep people at Kaiser says they prolly wont do the surgery unless I have used to cpap for 3 months... I personally thing its stupid... How many people have gone through any type of surgery without getting sleep apnea tests? That shouldn't hold up your surgery. I'm afraid now I won't get my surgery not for at least 3 months.

I should have ignored that problem! UGH! I have my consult on Thursday, so we will see what he says...

What has been your situatons with sleep apnea?

Good morning.

Please don't despair or get frustrated.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you will be having major surgery and the more "issues" that can be addressed and dealt with in the pre-op time, the easier time it will be for both you and your surgeon when the big day comes.... and it will come... faster than you can imagine!

We have all had to jump through hoops before surgery but each hoop I had to jump through showed me how precious my body is and surprisingly just how good of shape it had been after years of neglect.  Now that I've had my surgery I have to take care of it instead of taking it for granted.  Not only did I have to do the 1/2 day class, attend support meetings before surgery, psych eval and meet with a nutritionist, but I had to have colonoscopy, endoscopy, nucleaur ekg/stress test with imaging, pulmonary function study, mammogram and of course ekg & blood work.  There may have been more, I just can't remember!  LOL

You are making changes for a lifetime with having your surgery and 3 months, if they do require that goes very fast.  Doesn't it seem like Valentines' Day just happened?  LOL

You absolutely did the right thing NOT to ignore the issue and have it addressed.

I wish you all the best with your surgery and recovery and know that it will be here soon and we'll be moving on over to on the losers bench to welcome you!

Hugs,
Barb

Hi,

I am also going through kaiser ssf and was tested for sleep apnea. it took them 2 weeks to send me a letter confirming.  it came back positive for severe sleep apnea.  they want you to be on the cpap for 2 months before surgery.  from orientation to surgery date was only a matter of 7 weeks for me.  of course my surgery date is not for another 6 weeks, but he did give me a date.  i still have 10 pounds to lose as well but he was happy with my progress.  i lost 19 pounds in 7 weeks.  my surgeon is Dr. Alami and my surgery date is August 19.  if you do have sleep apnea, kaiser will give you a "test" cpap machine to use for about 10 days.  it will collect data and at the end of the time you turn it in to them and they read the data and forward a referrel to durable medical equipment.  the whole process takes 3 or more weeks.  I took the initiative and called durable medical equipment myself to put a rush on it.  the next day apria called me and i paid my copay and the unit will be sent ups to my house within 2 weeks.   im hoping it will be sooner.  I have a 20% durable medical equipment copay and my share ended up being 160 dollars.  Im glad i had the test.  my sleep apnea is really bad and i had no idea it was bad.  i just thought i was tired all the time cause i was overweight.  Im happy to wait so i dont die on the table.

good things come to those who wait.

good luck to you
