Are there any support groups set up for the South Bay Area? If not, is there any interest in setting one up?

What part of the South Bay Area?  If you're in or near San Jose, the Good Samaritan Hospital probably has some, because of the WLS that are done there by Dr Morton, etc.

Good luck.

There are also a few at Kaiser San Jose Medical Center that are open to the public......

There is a monthly support group sponsored by Pacific Laparoscopy that meets in San Jose the third Wednesday of each month. The group is open to anyone interested in learning more about the DS (duodenal switch), and we do sometimes have people come who have had, or are considering, other forms of wls.  It's a very friendly group.
I hope you would be interested in learning more about the DS. It has the best statistics for percentage excess weight loss, maintaining that weight loss, and resolution of almost all comorbidities of any wls presently available. Given the amount of weight you need to lose (based on the numbers in your post) it is unlikely that the VSG will get you to where you want to be (I say this knowing that the group you are signed on with pushes the VSG as a stand alone - and they are making the sleeves smaller and smaller to prevent weight regain - and this approach has potential problems of its own)
If you are at all interested, just send me a pm and I'll provide more information about this and the other meetings that are available to you. Whatever you decide to do, I believe that every potential wls patient should know as much as possible about all the available alternatives to make the best possible informed decision.
