Just wondering if anyone has seen both surgical facilities in LA (harbor and west la) I guess I have a choice of where to go but I like to hear other peoples experiences.
Thanks

did they open up both of those facilities again.... I heard postive things about both places... nothing specific... just that they were both really nice. What kaiser are you taking your classes through, and how far are you through them?

Congrats on almost completing your classes! I just completed mine mid June.   I do have a friend who had surgery at harbor and had a great experience both with the surgeon and staff.  I am up in the AV, about 50 miles north of the valley.  I chose to go to Pacific Bariatrics in San Diego.  I know that's a few hours away but check out there website.  The surgeons are world renowned.  Kaiser does contract with them.  Also Pacific Bariatrics doesn't have a waiting period after your done with Options.  I think west la/harbor have a 3-6 months wait for surgery.  Another positive about pacbar is they don't have a 10% weight loss requirement either.  Just something for u to consider :)  Again congrats on your journey thus far.

I had my Vertical Sleeve at Kaiser Harbor City.  The doctors are both GREAT from what I have heard.  I have also heard great things on the Sleeve board about the West LA docs as well.  I think one of the biggest considerations these days is the WAIT time.  I hear it's horrible at either.

What surgery are you getting?

I also chose to go with Pacific Bariatic in San Diego..I only had to go back once for my first post op and all the rest have been at their local seminars each month.  Most of the people from my class chose to go there also because of the long wait times for Kaiser.  When I finished my class in mid January it was a 7 month wait to get into Kaiser.
I heard they just signed the contract with St. Bernardines in San Bernadino and there is like no wait time.

so when you are finished with your classes how do you tell them which one you want to go to? Do you tell the case manager when she calls?

On the last day of your class you fill out a form and tell them where you want to go..Pls make sure you have all your labs and especially the stool test done.  We had people on the last day who did not do theirs and it sets them way back time wise.  I graduated on Jan. 19th and had my Surgery on March 26th.  If  yhou choose to go to Pacific Bariatric or Crown in Temecula, make sure you go to one of their seminars ASAP..it is a requirement.  You also will have needed to attend at least one support group before your surgery also.  You can go on their web sites and see when and where the seminars are.

I finished my Kaiser Options class on May 25th. There is a longer period wait time because kaiser stopped sending patients to the LA area due to overcrowding. They were sending everyone to Pac Bar. There is  a wait time for pac bar... a couple months I guess..

Yes, they did sign up with St. Bernadine's with Dr. Peter Fedorka. I have my consult with him on Thursday. I hear he is being someaht strict and taking low risk patients though, probably to keep his stats up, being that he is somehwat new to the area. I am hoping I get my surgery date soon... They were thinking end of July, beginning of August.
