Is this good or bad?

I am so excited for my consult next thusday but.... I just found out today that the surgeon that I have is being very picky with the patients that he has. From what I've heard, he is only taking low risk patients.... is that good or bad? I'm not sure how to look at it... what are your thoughts on it?

It sounds like he really wants to jack up his success rate! I guess it all depends on if you are low risk or not. Good luck!

Well there are a couple of schools of thought on the situation.  He may be an extra cautious Dr. and there is nothing wrong with that.  Also, there are different perceptions of low risk, so perhaps the very best thing to do is to talk to his staff to ask them what he considers low risk.  OR just wait for next Thurs.  Either way, I would begin writing all your questions down so that you make good use of your time with him.  You also want to make sure he is a good fit for you too.

Good luck with your appointment and I hope that you will keep us posted.

Hugs,
Barb

My sugeon should run tests to make sure his patients wake up from surgery.  Many patients may be weeded out due to previous heart surgeries or heart issues, etc.  I'd rather my surgeon has me see 2 cardiologists in the process (as I had to do) to make sure he was confident that I would not have issues during surgery.  I also felt better about my surgeon being a good general surgeon to handle any issues that might arise during surgery.  If you're approved and you like the surgeon, I'd check with some of his patients, and if you like their opinion, go ahead.  Your surgeon has the right to screen each patient to make sure they will have very high odds of surviving the surgery.  DAVE

My surgeon would not operate on anyone over 60.
