Hello everyone in Calif! My name is Vicki and I have been a member here for quite a while, however I have not posted much.  I have really enjoyed reading everyones posts and have learned so much.  I am currently going through the pre-op testing phase and do not have a date yet for surgery, but I am planning to have the RNY.  I am so glad to have found this resource! Thank you in advance to all you that have shared so much information, I am trying to soak it up like a sponge!

Hi Vicki,

Welcome to the Cali board, so glad you joined us.  This is a great place for support, friendship and fun too.  It would be a little bit of a drive but we have a Nor Cal Losers lunch each month and you're most welcome to join us.  We are not a formal support group, but a group of friends who rally together once a month for friendshp, support and a great time with A LOT of laughs.  Come join us and bring a friend/spouse/significant other whatever!  LOL.  My post is down a couple of threads.

Welcome again!
Barb

I also like to welcome you to the Cali Board. I love the Cali Board. I hope you will join us in our post. The best way to get to know everyone is to just join in. Good Luck with getting your surgery approved. There is plenty of room on the losers bench for you! We can't wait for you to join us.

Welcome, I am looking to have surgery too.  Kaiser should be sending my file to Pacific Bariatic in San Diego today, so hopefully I will see a surgeon in a couple of weeks.   Looking to have surgery this summer.

WElcome. I'd view multiple forums to learn as much as possible.  Daily, I view the main forum, RNY forum and the CA forum.. I'd also suggest attending regular support meetings, as they also offer a slightly different perspective, as you can speak directly to recent post ops, and as follow up questions, getting immediate answers. Good luck on your journey. DAVE

Hi there, Vicki,
Welcome to the Cali Board. I have met so many wonderful people here, all of them willing to help us through our weight loss journey. I, too, do not have a surgery (RNY) date yet
but I have completed all my pre-op testing. I meet with my primary Monday morning to go over the results of my blood work. I work in education so I was hoping to have my surgery while I'm off for the summer. Again, welcome and I look forward to chatting again.  Good luck with all your testing.

Always a friend,
Marie

Thank you for all of the warm and welcoming replies!!  And to Journey, good luck on your appointment for Monday!   My pre-op so far has taken quite a long time due to some bumps in the road and I know how frustrating it can be to have delays.  I am hopeful that I will get a date for my surgery sometime between the end of summer or in the fall.  It really helps to have friends going through this process at the same time.  I am very lucky to have a group of very supportive friends, they are all in my corner so to speak about my decision.  At the same time none of them are morbidly obese, and so it really is nice to speak to those who have experienced all of the problems and limitations that come with obesity.   This journey for me has already brought challenges that I did not imagine I would be facing, so here is hoping we all have a smooth and speedy surgery and recovery!!!   Thanks again everyone for the welcome!!  I am so glad I found this site!

Hello again, Vicki~
I know well about bumpy roads. I first asked about WLS in August of 2005. As I was sent for some bloodwork and a mammogram, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a mastectomy in November (right after Thanksgiving). My surgeon told me I had to lose weigh (I was 317 lbs at the time). Then in 2008, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. All during this time, I was losing weight slowly. I had to have a colon resection and now I am 2 yrs cancer-free so I'm trying once again to have the RNY. I did get as low as 229 lbs in May of 2009 then I was told my job was being eliminated after 18 yrs. It was more than I could handle. I ballooned up to 285 lbs. I'm now working on taking off 20 lbs before my surgery date and have lost 4 lbs so far.

I have 3 daughters who are very much my support, as well as my husband. I just can't wait for the day I can go a whole day without pain in my body. The support on this board helps so much, I have learned so much from others experiences. I would like to say thank you to all of you who probably don't even know how much you have helped those of us who have not had our surgeries. Hugs to all of you!
