Pregnant and 12 monts post RNY...any recommendations for OB??

I just found out that I am pregnant (5 weeks).  I am 12.5 months post-RNY.  My weight has been stable (within 2-3 pounds up/down) for a few months now.  I am nervous about the pregnancy.  Anybody know of an OB in the los angeles or north orange county area who is experienced with pregnancy with post WLS patients?   I am concerned about the malabsorption issues and want someone who is familiar with our specific physical peculiarities.
I appreciate any help or advice you can give!

I don't live near you so I don't know of anyone, but I did want to say congratulations! I was wondering if you needed to see a "high risk" specialist. If you call your surgeons office hopefully they can recommend someone to you. Good Luck.

Congrats on your pregnancy! You should be fine with a regular OB as you're at that year point and that your weight loss has been stable for a few months. You'll need to change up your vitamin regimine as the bariatric and regular multivitamins have too much Vit A. You'll be good with 2 prenatals (I did the OneSource brand), a Super B Complex, Sublingual B12, and Calcium Citrate. As far as eating...you'll want to make sure that you eat something (even as small as a cheese stick or low carb yogurt) every 2-3 hrs to keep your blood sugars stable since hypoglycemia tends to run in post op pregnancy. I had 2 post op babies (prego the 1st time at 16m post op) and both went well. I also suggest telling your OB to NOT do the standard GTT test for you, instead get a fasting glucose, eat a regular meal and then do a 1 hour post prandial to accurately see how your body processes glucose.

I'm in northern Cali so I can't recommend an OB but check out the Post op pregnancy board on here...I'm sure that your question will get answered on there for that.

Good luck and congrats!!

thanks for the advice!  I didn't know that about the vitamin A.  I will go out and get a prenatal vitamin right away (I have been using the Celebrate multivitamin).  I have been feeling light headed lately...thanks for the snacking tip.  It is good to hear from someone who has come through this successfully.  I found a perinatologist and he recommended an OB that has a lot of experience with post-rny pregnancies...hopefully I will like him.

Thanks!
