Calling all Coates/Coirin Patients

I attended the seminor on June 3rd and of course submitted all the paper work they wanted.  How long does it take for them to get back to you?  What are the steps after that?  I realize everyone is different.  I complete my visit with the NUT on July 14th and had my consult with the Phyc doctor last week.  Hoping to have everything in place so I can have the surgery the first part of August.  Would appreciate any info on Dr. Coates and Memorial Hospital.  Thanks - I've been working on this for over a year now - had to posphone due to a heart attack - but it has almost been a year so I am up and running again on this journey!

It depends on your insurance or selfpay.  Both doctors will move it along ok (probably better than most).  Memorial is good and has had their program up and running for many years.  I would feel comfortable with either Coates or Coirin cutting me.  Over the years I have gone to Memorial's support group and have heard both speak at least 3-4 times.  Both offices are very busy, so you'll see a lot of the PAs (Diane I think).  We want our hand holding with the surgeon...but really if they are good surgeons...Let them do the surgery and the few days of followup...Then hand you over to the PA who will let the surgeon know if it looks like there is something wrong.  I too had a heart attack...Had to get a clearance from the heart doctor also.  Just jump through the hoops and your date will come up quickly.  Brian

Thanks Brian - I got a call this morning that they had a cancellation on Monday morning!  Hopefully my journey can take on wings!  Were you on Plavix when you had your surgery?  I was worried about that but Dr. Coirin didn't seem like it was any big thing when I mentioned it at the seminor.  My heart doctor already told me my heart was doing great and the damage was gone when I had my last stress test in October.  Can't wait to post with a surgery date!

I've had 2 heart attacks...One almost 11 years ago and one 2 years post RNY.  Heart disease runs in my family and being obese for 30 years had taken it's toll.  After my second heart attack (with a stent) I am doing good...Taking Plavix and one 82mg of aspirin.  I walk or bike ride daily...and am in pretty good shape (could always do better).  You will probably be asked to stop the aspirin and Plavix for awhile...Don't know how long before surgery.  That part can be a gamble, but you don't want to bleed alot during surgery.  Both the Plavix and aspirin may be hard to digest post WLS...I try to always take them with milk.  Good luck, Brian
