Great news,,,, I THINK....

I have great news.... Kaiser Fontana just called me and said they opened up a contract with St. Bernadine's in San Bernardino.... They are starting consultations this month and setting up surgeries for July... Looks like I might be setting mine up for end of July beginning of August. I'm just a little nervous with that, because I don't know much about it, and with going to Pac Bar, i would have a little more info with that... Those docs have been doing it for years and years, and it is a specialty hospital too... I will have a consultation with him and ask plenty of questions though.... Anyone ever hear of Dr. Peter Fedorka? He is from the Redlands Medical Center....

That is great news.  They didn't say anything in my last class on  Friday.  I wonder if they do the sleeve.  They still stated they were sending all of us to Pacific.  I hope they do send some of us there. Congrats.

yeah, i'm excited,,, hope it all goes well... I'm gonna go where I feel most comfortable... I know that they have seminars there and there is one on June 10, and June 24th, that I plan on going to one of those, along support groups as well... those I'm not sure when they are....

I'm not too sure if they perform the sleeve there or not, that will be one of my questions... I'm still back and forth on RNY and sleeve... prolly go with RNY though...

Any suggestions on what types of questions to ask at the consult?

Here are the questions I have been collecting from other blogs.


How many have you performed?
How many has this Hospital performed?
How long have you been doing Sleeve Surgeries?
How many deaths have YOU Had?
How many Deaths has this hospital had cause of WLS?
Will I have a drain tube?
Will you use a catheter?
How long will I be in the hospital? How many leaks have occurred in pass patients? How long does the inside seam/staple line take to heal? 1.  What foods/drinks can you have after surgery?  Get a list, in writing.  Make sure it says when to advance to full liquids, to pureed foods, etc.

2.  When should you start vitamins after surgery?  The ASMBS recommends starting your multi and your iron the day after surgery, your calcium within one month, and your B12 within three months.  If your doc says something different, find out why.

3.  Get your prescriptions for pain pills, nausea meds, etc today so you can get those filled and have them waiting for you at home.  You don't wanna have to stop at the pharmacy on the way home from the hospital.

4.  Ask if you'll have any drains after surgery and if so, when they will come out.  That way you'll be prepared.

5.  How long should you expect to be in the hospital if there are no complications?
