Stopping in to introduce myself

Good evening to all California Bariatric Buddies!
I'm new to this site. I have spent the last few hours roaming around the site to learn more about the RNY surgery. I have been through the required workshops and support groups but I wanted to hear more from those of you who have been through the surgery and those who are going through the process as I am.

I'm in Sacramento and am so looking forward to having an actual surgery date. I love reading all the support all of you have to offer. This is a great resource prior and, I'm sure, after surgery.

I look forward to keeping in touch with many of you.

Marie

A good way to check out individual stories is to click on the person's avatar, and their profile blog should pop up.  Read away!!

Sometimes folks choose to make their profiles private, if so, just go on to another.

Enjoy.

Welcome Marie! You are going to love it here on the Cali board. I had my RNY 9-9-9. I have lost 97 lbs. I am so happy I had the surgery. The only problem I have is that I have a small ulcer right now. It should heal nicely with the medication Dr. Swartz gave me. I am very careful what I eat because I have had some dumping at times. I am glad I do because it keeps me on track.

I read your profile and it sounds like you have had some pretty hard times. I am so sorry about your son. I can not even begin to imagine who that must have felt. I am glad that you got counseling though.
Do you have a surgeon yet? Make sure you are comfortable with him/her. You will be having life long relationship with this person. You will also be taking vitamins and calcium for the rest of your life. Be sure to research all the WLS types. You need to know as much as you can when making a decision. This is a tool, not a  magic bullet.

Please feel free to join in on any post and to post anytime you want. If you have question usually someone will have the answer. The best way to get to know everyone is to join right in. I look forward to knowing you better.

Thank you for your response. I have chosen a doctor, Aaryan Koura. I have met him at a couple of the workshops and I really like him. He has a great sense of humor and is sensitive to the adversities larger people live through on a daily basis. He tells you the truth both good and bad of the different types of surgery options.

I work in education so I am hoping I can get a surgery date during the time I'm off for the summer. I've completed my psych eval, 5 months of weigh-ins, I have a physical scheduled for June 1. My psychologist stated he thought I was a perfect candidate for the RNY.

Thank you for your well wishes,
Marie

Thank you, Debbie for your warm welcome.
I would love to attend a luncheon or coffee clash or any function Nor Cal is having when possible. I am looking forward to a new path in my journey through life. I do have support from my husband and family memebers but since none of them have actually gone through the process they are limited. This site, as I see it, give plenty of support, from thinking about surgery to years post-op. I love it.

Hope to keep in touch,
Marie

Welcome Marie, congrats on beginning your process. I had my surgery 2 months ago and so far am very happy. I don't know which area of Sac you live in but wanted to invite you to our support group which is on Mondays at Kaiser Big Horn at 7:00pm. It is not exclusively for Kaiser patients, just people who are interested in or have had weightloss surgery. We have a good group, with people who are pre-op, to a few months and years out. Lots of good information and support. Feel free to PM me if you want more information. Good luck on your journey. Janine

Thank you Janine for your lovely welcome,
I attend a support group offered by Dr. Koura, every 3rd Thursday of the month. There is a different subject every month and the nutritionist comes in with a new recipe to try and they are quite good. I live in the southern part of Sacramento. Kaiser Big Horn is a 10-15 minute drive for me, depending on traffic. Are the support group meetings you attend every Monday? What type of surgery did you have? I'm currently researching the different types of protein drinks/powders, what do you suggest?

I'm very happy for your great success and will continue to keep up with your success, if it's ok with you.  My prayers are with you on your journey to a new life.

Marie
