If you did, do you love it and who did you see for it ? Thank you very much.

I did not have a DS, but I know the people who have had it love it. There are not many surgeons in CA who do it. If you are looking for one you might try the DS Board. I have heard them talk about a guy in the Bay Area who is supposed to be excellent. Good Luck!

I am very happy I had the RNY. There are pros and cons for each surgery. Research every surgery before you make your decision. Then decide what is best for you. Everyone thinks that their surgery is best but you really have to decide for yourself what is best for you. Be careful in choosing your surgeon too. If you don't feel comfortable with your surgeon get a different one, you will be having a life long relationship with this person. Feel free to ask questions anytime you need to. We are here to encourage and support each other no matter what type of surgery you decide to have. Good Luck!

Hi, Nikki!
I've seen you also on the DS forum, which really is the best place for DS info. Most of the people on the CA board have had RNY or lap band, and some have sleeves.
I had the DS and I'm very happy with my decision. I believe every patient should research carefully all of the options before making such an important decision. While it's true that there are less surgeons performing the DS than other surgeries, we are fortunate in CA to have some of the best DS surgeons in the country available to us.
If you're interested, there will be a support group meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) night in San Jose sponsored by Pacific Laparoscopy, the group run by Dr. John Rabkin. Anyone interested in the DS is welcome to come and learn more about it, and some of the DS patients who attend are patients of other surgeons. We're not picky! This is a small, informal group, but with some very well informed people. You can pm me for more info. I know it's a long drive from Merced, but it's a great way to learn more about this excellent option.
PacLap has other support groups around the greater Bay Area as well, including the big group that meets in San Francisco on the second Wednesday of each month. There is probably something closer to you.
