Need advice on exercise/pulled muscles

Hi all,

As I have lost weight, I've started to do things like play on a softball team. Unfortunately, I keep reinjuring my quad muscle in my left leg from doing something as simple as sprinting around the bases. It seems all my walking, swimming and the eliptical machine have not prepared my quad muscles for sprinting short distances. The first time I hurt myself, I didn't warm up properly, but I have after that. I did give myself what I thought was enough time to heal, but last Saturday I got a base hit and thought I was shot in my upper thigh as I ran to first base. SIGH!

What did all of you do to get yourself up to par? I might start with a doctor's appointment for physical therapy, but any other ideas? I really want to play softball without causing injury.

Thanks!

I was going to suggest that you go see your doctor and getting physical therapy but you beat me to it! I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Ms. B.

Hey girl!  Can't wait ti see you next week!!!  So sorry you're hurting... no fun.  I had similar issues during my first year out with my back and shoulder.  I'm no Dr but I think the docs I spoke to did agree with my hypothesis.  While tendons and muscles are stretchy, I think as you loose weight the tendons and muscles are having to catch up with the new size and are weaker and get sore.  So that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

They did give me some flexeril to take at night as I was having trouble sleeping and it did help.  I didn't take it long as I'm not much into taking meds I don't have to but it helped.
