Pacific Bariatric Dr. Rumsey

Yipeee, I have my first appointment at Pacific Bariatric on April 1st!!! Kaiser flubbed up at the last bit there, they thought I was missing food logs when I really had extra so they had not sent my referral, to top it all off my hubby is changing company's and the new one has Blue Cross or Blue Shield so my Kaiser will be coming to an end. We will keep it through Cobra until the new one starts anyway but Pacific is trying to get me on the table by the end of April. They were so awesome and helpful scheduling me so fast as soon as they got Kaiser to fax everything over. It looks like Dr. Rumsey will be my surgeon, are there any Rumsey patients on here?

I love Pacific Bariatrics surgeons and staff.  My surgeon was/is Dr. Zorn. I had the surgery on August 10, 2007 and I am soooooooo happy I did. Congrats on your upcoming wls journey. Keep us posted.

I am in the same situation as you possibly losing my Kaiser coverage close to the time I am done with the Options classes. 

How long did you have to wait between the time you finished the classes to get a referal and actual surgery date? 

The program is now 3 months of classes but I am told 3-4 months of wait time after classes are done, for the surgery since all the doctors in my area are booked.  I am trying to figure out if driving a few hours out might be more practical if I can get the surgery sooner than waiting for a local doctor.

Latin Beauty, I live in Bakersfield Ca. we do not have a Kaiser hospital here so we get the choice of either a Kaiser hospital in  L.A. or going to Pacific Bariatric in San Diego, we were told it takes about a month to get the first appointment and about another 4 to 6 weeks after that for surgery at Pacific, one man in my class chose L.A. thinking it would be quicker since the rest of the class wanted San Diego and he says he will be waiting 4 or 5 months. Kaiser made a mistake so my stuff did not get faxed off for 6 weeks, but Pacific has super nice staff and they got me in in less than a week for my pre op appointments and are trying to get me in surgery before the months end, I saw the surgeon on the first and he said they would call me in 2 weeks which is tomorrow, I am hopeful they will get me in by the months end but am prepared to dish out some bucks to keep Kaiser on Cobra if I need to. Thanks for the information.  In the antelope valley we don't have a kaiser hospital here either.  We get the choice of L.A. as well or a kaiser contracted surgeon in the area.  However the wait time for that is about 4-5 months.  So I will be inquiring about Pacific Bariatrcis since it seems to have a more reasonable wait time.  If you don't mind me asking, did Dr. Rumsey have a 10% weight loss requirement like Kaiser says more surgeron's will?

I dont know if Dr. Rumsey had a requirement or if it was just that Kaiser said they will not refer you until you loose the 10%, I was the second biggest looser in my class, I have lost 55, so Dr. Rumsey just told me to keep up the good work and not gain any before surgery. I know that some are told to loose more after they meet their surgeon. The more we can loose before the easier surgery will be on us, I feel so much better just loosing the 55, if I can loose 10 more I will be on cloud 9! All but 1 from my class are using Pacific, the one who chose L.A. is waiting forever, Pacific Bariatric are the experts, they have done a lot more than L.A.
