I had mine stuff done in 2002. I had no pain whatsoever and my surgeon didn't use drains. Each surgeon is different.
The only thing I had requested was no dog ears. Well, I have them.

My surgery was in the am and I was home that night.

Good luck

(You'll find lots of information on the Plastic Surgery Board, they're super helpful over there.)

I had a circumferential lower body lift that removed my panni last August.  When I woke up I was sore but not in a lot of pain. It took me about a week to be able to stand upright (because my abdominal muscles were tightened) and I was sent home the next day after surgery. (Most people go home the same day when they just have a tummy tuck.)

My surgeon left me with four drains, that came out one at a time over three weeks.

You'll be fine, I am so much happier without my "mud flaps" you will be too!

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

I had mine done 2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did even though I have gained some weight since. You are too doped up to really care about too much for days after. Just SLEEP! and take your pain meds. In 3 days I felt back to normal except for the drains. They are annoying but necessary in such a large surgery. I looked around in the mirror just now and I don't see anything that looks like dog ears!?! I'm happy and you will be too. Good luck and just go with it. You are worrying for nothing, as I did. Oh, I almost forgot, I rented a lift chair so I didn't have any trouble getting up and down, I even slept in it for almost a week. Worth the $$$ as I would have had to go upstairs, etc. I didn't have my stomach muscles stitched so I was not as tight as some. My back did get sore from stooping as I walked but the pain pills and a heating pad took care of that.

I was in alot of pain, but I did have complications.....just make sure you get lots of pain meds. My surgery was all the way around, and if you are just having the front done, no doubt your pain level will be much less than mine.

Keep us posted....I wish you the best!

thanks everyone! How is the scarring? Was the pain more than when there was skin rashes?

Incisional pain is very different. It's just something you have to bear with for about a week or so, and then it subsides with time.

Just get pain meds! You have to walk to help promote healing, and taking the meds makes that easier....are you having just the skin removal or muscle tightening also?

The scarring from an extended panni is not so bad, especially if you have a good Dr.  Most of it is very low but if they have to go to your sides very far (to smooth it all out) the ends do come upward a bit.  Still, I am not unhappy with my scar AT ALL, I am SO HAPPY to have a flat belly and wear normal clothes!  I will tell you, when they cut you this much, they do cut some minor nerves and you may have some numbness on your belly or even down your thigh.  A little annoying but not something to worry about.
