Thank you all so much for your input.  I waited this long because I wanted to see what other feedback I would get.  Here goes . . .

Katrina F.

I appreciate the sentiment but if I was able to keep it off without surgery, I wouldn’t be contemplating surgery.

Lynn N.

Ditto.  You did a pre-op diet and then had surgery.  Would you have been able to maintain without the surgery?  Been there done that on several diet and exercise programs and gained it back.  Besides, I know I’m also fighting genetics due to all the women in my family becoming morbidly obese.

Thank you for the fill info.  I hadn’t heard about that one before.

Larra

My reflux is completely under control with generic prilosec.  My guess is that with the weight gone the pressure on my stomach will be relieved and with the surgery, I’ll be eating much less which will also contribute to the end of my reflux.

Kirsten J

Thank you for your honest feedback of your experience.

And on a final note:  I have decided to get VSG.  After much research on many sites, I know this is the best way for me to go.

Dr. Almanza operates out of an unlicensed clinic owned by a man who claims to be a doctor, but is not. They often do 6-9 surgeries in a day (most surgeons do 2-5 depending on how complex they are). They have an astronomical infection rate well above the 1% or less that you should be seeing and they've had many reported cases of leaks plus other complications that were misdiagnosed by the "Dr" who does all the aftercare.

And that's just the stuff that can be proven. There are questions about their sterile procedures, how qualified their other personnel are and where they get their medical supplies.

Please don't take a chance with your life in order to save money. I know these operations are expensive but being in the hospital for months afterwards with a life-threatening complication is much more expensive. It's worth it to pay a few thousand more and go to some with a good track record and reputation.

You may not want to hear truth but what Mac writes IS truth.  That clinic has had more infections and complications in the last 6 months than most doctors have in an entire career.

Would you like to talk to one of their patients that had a leak, an abscess, and they damaged her pancreas doing her sleeve?  How about a person that supposedly got an Allergan Lap Band but Allergan disagrees it came from them?  Oh... she has an infection that cannot be resolved and has to have the band removed.

Mac cares if you have a good surgical outcome, that's all.  Honestly, can you knock her for that?  She just doesn't want to see you back next month posting that you have a massive infection like about 50 others in the past few months (no, not an exaggeration) posting that you are about to file bankruptcy due to the medical bills. :o(

She didn't do anything wrong, she told you the truth.  Honest to goodness, you get what you pay for probably more so in Mexico than the US.

I have six pages of posts written by patients with problems and issues, would you like to see it?  Straight from the horses mouth?

BTW, good move changing from a band to a sleeve.
