Protein Question
Thanks for the input. I am following my surgeons directions to the T. I was just wondering why a few of my friends that are a month or 2 farther out than I am (in their words) "not doing the whole protein thing"

I'm 18 months out and have a double shot protein drink every day for breakfast. 16 oz. of fluid and 42-44 g of protein (depending on brand) right of the bat and it sets my day up nicely.
I make them in the blender with ice so they have the consistency of a smoothie though I can just add water and shake, if I have to.
I mostly use Whey Gourmet Smooth PB and Chocolate and various flavors of Chike. I sometimes add in a Healthwise/Healthsmart Protein drink -- the fruit kinds in the afternoon and hot chocolate in the evening -- if I feel like I'm going to be short on my protein for the day.

It's my breakfast. I drink it on the way to work in the car and fini**** at work if I need to.
On the weekend, I tend to skip them and then I get in trouble.

I had my surgery on the same day as you and I have been adding a protein shake or protein shot each day. I heard that it is one way to be sure to not lose my hair and since my son's wedding is just 2 months away...I didn't want to risk it. Although when I was sick a couple of weeks ago, I had a hard time being able to get all of my protein in. I blame it on the liquid antibiotics messing with my taste buds and my stomach and not much tasted good or wanted to go down.
I've noticed that my tastes have changed. Just after the surgery I loved a Chocolate Peanut Butter protein shake that was in the book that they gave me. Now, I don't do the Chocolate flavors as much. Maybe I need to change it up some more.
Good Luck with your protein drinks!

Right now the only thing that my tastes have changed on are my vitamins. So I ended up switching to Trader Joes vitamins. Other than the Isopure protein in the glass bottles and water I have no intake. Having the strictures have kinda messed up having food for now. Hopefully after Monday I will be at the desired dilation and I can be cleared for some food. I am not hungry but I miss chewing...

Okay so then my question goes out to everyone who swears by drinking the protein - Keep in mind the program I had my surgery through does not allow protein drinks so while I am 9 months out I just started looking into the protein drinks last week. So here is my question - when you are drinking all these protein drinks and counting them towards your liquid in some situations how many calories are you sitting at? With the three meals I am eating plus a snack - including drinking a protein shake in the AM - I am getting 80 grams of protein in and sitting between 800 & 900 calories a day. Where is everyone else with the protein between 80-100 calories wise? I am starting to think that I really need to up my calories ( I should say I have been in a stall for a few weeks now - sorta I keep losing and gaining the same two darn pounds over and over again --- I know I know everyone says not to worry about 2 pounds here and there but I am 2 pounds from my goal weight so I can smell "the finish line" and its killing me!)
