Protein Question

So... I was sitting here wondering about this today. Right now my main intake is protein drink and water. I can have some cream soups but not much else until I have another endoscopy :(

So what I was wondering about is.... Protein. How many of you actually drink protein drinks?? I am gonna have to say that I don't know many post-ops that do. Even a few people that just had surgery a few weeks before me don't drink them. I know the farther out you are the easier it is to get all of the protein that you need from food, but in the meantime how do you get in all of your protein without the protein drinks? Also which protein drinks do you like the best.

Nathalie :)

Hi Nathalie, I still do protein drinks at almost 2 years post-op. I do 1-2 per day, just to bump up my protein levels. Hope this helps. x0x0x0

is that on top of 3 meals a day? I was told when I finally start to eat that I can have 3 meals a day, no snacks, and can drink my Isopure throughout the day to hit my protein goal (count as liquid, not a meal).

Nathalie,

I sill can not eat enough to make up the protein requirements. They say I will be able to get there some day but I don't know when. Now that I have my hair cut shorter, I just can't afford to loose any of it for lack of protein.

One of the problems I have, and I guess you do to, is that I am never hungry. I need to remind myself when it is time to eat.

I did fix some home maid soup the other day from a recipe I got from the Food Network. It was the Neely's chicken soup, and was it good.

God be with you

Hi Nathalie
I've been using IDS Protein Drink  Belgian Chocolate flaver ever since I was about 2 months post op (now at 1 year) for the main reason I wasn't getting in enough protein.  IDS has 24grams of protein and I use it in 1 cup of Silk soy milk which has 7 grams for a total of 31 grams...just in the one drink alone.,  I use the drink as my breakfast in place of anything solid.  It fits in with my schedule of getting to work on time and not taking time to cook anything.  I like IDS best having tried EAS, Celebrate and Fusion (I think was the name).  IDS just seems to have more flavor. My current total protein intake is between 60 and 80 grams a day.
Hope this helps you some.

I do protein drinks too. I just feel better if I get the protein in. I really feel best if I drink 80-100 grams a day.  I use GNC 28 grams of protein. It has 3 grams of sugar per serving. I can not tolerate much more sugar than that. I drink Cytomax Protein Water it has 40 grams per serving and is sugar free. I dilute it 50/50 with water because whateve sweetner they use makes it taste really sweet. I get it at www.yournaturaloptions.com. They have one shipping rate no matter how much you order and that is how you save money on it. There is also Isopure. you can get it in 15 grams per serving or 40 grams per serving. Make sure to get the sugar free. I also get this really yummy  hot cocolate from www.bariwise.com. They have alot of stuff to chose from. Like it was said earlier you can not eat enough protein to get in enough right now. The fluid counts toward your water intake. Those are just the things I use. Good Luck.

I drink 120 grams protein drink per day. It supplements my food.

Hi Nathalie,
I am almost 8 years out and I drink about 40 grams of protein a day.  I just want to make sure I get in as much as I can.
Just follow your surgeon's or nutritionist's advice.
