I JUST FOUND OUT TODAY THAT I HAVE THE FACTOR 5 BLOOD CLOT DISORDER WHICH IS GENETIC.  I AM TO HAVE MY SURGERY AT THE END OF APRIL AND NOW I HAVE TO HAVE THE FILTER PUT IN MY NECK OR GROIN AREA PRIOR TO GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY AND REMOVED 6 WKS AFTER IF NO CLOTS HAVE OCCURRED.  I AM SO UPSET AND SCARED.  I AM HAVING MY SURGERY DONE BY DR. MARC ZARE IN SAN JOSE, CA.  I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME IF THEY HAD THIS DONE AND WHAT WAS THE RESULTS.  GOOD OR BAD I WANT TO HEAR IT.  I AM ALSO A TYPE 2 DIABETIC, HAVE BP ISSUES, THROID AND CHOLESTROL PROBLEMS AND SLEEP APNEA.  I SUFFER FROM ANXIETY ISSUES AS WELL AND MY NERVES ARE GETTING THE BEST OF ME NOW.  I AM DETERMINED TO HAVE THE SURGERY BUT NEED TO KNOW IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME SOME INFO.  ALL COMMENTS WELCOMED.  THANKS, BARBARA

Good Morning Barbara,

From one Barbara to another...

While I don't have the disorder you are talking about, my surgery twin had the filter put in and she said it was just fine.  It's an extra insurance step, she called it.  I know how nervous and scared just having the surgery can be let alone one extra insurance step.  Please, if you can focus on all the positives...  I can tall you that I also had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, asthma, and snored like a 747 but I am happy to say I am now off all meds and the snoring is down to pretty much nil, (my husband is thrilled.)  So keep you eye on the prize, better health.

You might consider talking to the psych or your surgeon and see if they can suggest something for the anxiety.  Finally, our Nor Cal luncheon is this coming Sat in Concord, we'd love to have you join us for friendship, support and down right fun.  Bring family or a friend too, all are welcome.  You'll find caring and informational and inspirational folks and you'll get some great support.

Good luck on the exciting journey you're about to embark on, you're gonna love this healthier lifestyle.

Hugs,
Barb

First of all, take a deep breath and relax.  You will let your nerves get the better of you if you are not careful.

As for the filter, I personally did not have to have one, but know of  quite a few people who did and according to them, there was really nothing to it.  No big deal at all. Just an extra little inconvenience but a good precaution.  You will be fine.  Concentrate on the prize and forget about everything else.

Good luck.

RNY on 08/20/07 with
Hi Barbara
I had my RNY on August 20, 2007 and Don't post here much anymore but I do come by once in a while to catch up....low and behold I just read your post....

I do not have the issue you have but I DID have to have an IVF filter put in prior to my WLS because of blood clot issues years ago and the fact that I was on coumadin.  So...I totally understand your fear...I too was very afraid...but the procedure was painless....I was awake but given lots of the happy drugs to relax me...they went through my neck...I did look rather like I had been bitten by a vampire that bruised me but all in all it was fine....I know its scary but relax...I believe I wrote about it on my profile...go take a look.    I hen had the filer removed a couple of months after surgery...it was a little more difficult of a procedure because he filter kind of adheres to tissue but it too was uneventful....I was more bruised after the removal but i was  painless.  Its all for your benefit to protect you.

I know and toally understand how scared you are but just know it is for your protection.  Feel free to PM me if you have questions or concerns....

Take care and good luck...Has the procedure been scheduled yet?  I had mine done a Orangfe Coast hosp in fountain valley and was in very capable hands with the Drs there....I even asked if I could keep the filter after they took it out...lol...they looked at me like I as crazy but let me keep it...

Hi Barbara
It sounds like everyone has really stepped up and repsonded to your post and that is fantastic.  You can always count on OH members to give you knowledge, experience, encouragement and also be there for you.  I have not had a filter; however, I encourage you to remain positive and it is okay to be nervous or scared.  Just know that the WLS journey is amazing and soon you will be posting about that. Best of luck to you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they

ALL exist very nicely in the same box.
