across the boarder

I am trying to get the lap band procedure done.  I was wondering if anyone has gone to Mexicali to have this procedure done and what did you think.

No I haven't...But many people go across the boarder with good success (been on these OH boards for about 4 years now...what I hear).  One drawback I have heard...If you get the Lap Band there...many doctors in CA don't want to do the fills.  I understand where they're coming from.  They fill on someone elses procedure...carry the liability and very little benefit.  My surgeon will not fill other surgeons lap bands, especially those from other countries.  Just what I've heard.  Brian

Thanks you for your answer.  That makes sense.  I am not sure what the "fill" part is or means but its something for me to check into.  Nor do I know how often you do it.  Is there anything else I should know?  I thought the lap band was simply a band.

Then you need to prepare yourself for a lot of education on the band as well as WLS in general. You might find that the band isn't for you and something else is.  There are plenty of informational portions within this site that are incredibly helpful as well as going to the LAPBAND forum and hearing from members. Please do yourself a favor and spend some time researching what type of surgery you're considering. There are basically 4 procedures that are the most common: Gastric Bypass, Vertical Gastric Sleeve, Lap-Band, and Duodenal Switch. There are many reasons people pick a particular procedure so check it out.

Under the FORUMS tab you can then check out which type of surgery board to visit. There are also all kinds of reports and descriptions and illustrations if you search this site.

Have you been to any seminar yet?

No I have never been to a seminar.  My friend had the Gastric Bypass and she knows alot about this surgery.  She suggested that I do the lap-band due to only needing to lose a hundred pounds vs. 100+.  I take it you have been to the seminars and they were educational?  I will check into that.
