Waiting and Scared to EAT!!!!

For those of you who went through Pacific Bariatric in San Diego--how long did it take for a call back and the actual scheduling of your surgery after your preop date?

I am being very impatient as I am very impatient person at the moment.  Dr. Rumsey told me they will call me within 2 weeks (my 2 weeks is this Friday) however, the paperwork says within 3 weeks.

I am scared to eat because I don't want to gain anything between now and surgery. I have been having a protein drink for breakfast and lunch with chicken for dinner. I am losing more weight, which is good....but I am starving in the process. By 4pm the beast comes out to yell at anyone near me!!

I just need to see the light at the tunnel so I know that this starving is not in vain!

Hi Nicole,

For me it was about the same as Gus. It really depends on your availability. Are you having RNY or a sleeve or lapband? I was just at Pac Bar for my 6 month follow-up and met a young woman there that was barely being called in for her lapband, she finished her classes with Kaiser in October. So there are a lot of variables.
That being said, Dr. Rumsey is a very competent surgeon and I would gauge my guesstimate on closer to 3 weeks. Paitence. You are doing an awesome job, if you are losing more weight between your call back and your surgery. That helps shrink the liver, which is very important.

Good luck and hang in there.

So it was three weeks from your preop date that they called you guys? How long from your preop was surgery scheduled?

Actually, par for a normal timeline would go something like this (keep in mind, like I said before, there are quite a few variables):

you are scheduled for your orientation with your picked surgeon at Pac Bar. This is usually done on the same day that you are given 2 other appointments, with the psychologist and the internal medicine doctor.

then it is usually a 3 week wait.

You will be contacted by Pac Bar with a surgery date, and told when to report for pre-op (usually the day before surgery). This is when you are measured for your binder and get all your financial stuff out of the way. This is the day, you would probably pick to stay in San Diego to be close to the hospital.

So to answer your question, from preop to surgery is usually the next day. I hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. There are also quite a few Pacific Bariatric Alumnis here on the board that can also help.

Thanks Michelle. I guess I possibly have a week and a half more to wait then until they call me to schedule the surgery.
