I am having this sensation of pressure on my throat that is worrying me.  It is almost causing me to feel a panicky sensation.  It is as if there is weight on my throat.  If you feel your clavical bones in your neck....the area at the bottom of your throat that sits in the open area of the clavical bones is where it feels as though something is pushing on my throat right there.  It's gagging me and I dont know why its happening.........can this be weight loss related? I am getting the saggyness under the chin/neck but this is an odd sensation...like im gonna choke!  anyone?

I had that same "choking" sensation when I worked a job that was very stressful;  it could be a panic problem.  Are you dealing with any emotional problems?

You might also want to have your thyroid checked, just to make sure there's no problem there.

I hope you find that it is nothing serious.

Good luck.

I can rule out stress........
atleast life related stress anyway ~ I've got it better than I deserve so emotionally speaking I dont think that's the source.
I think I will make an appt with my PCP to do a thyroid check though.  It was fine prior to surgery but thyroid issues do run in my family.

I am glad you are going to your PCP. I hope they can get you in soon.  Let me know how it goes!

Hey Deb,

I know as we lose the weight the tendons are trying to get back in shape with being smaller, due to losing the fat pads they had, as I have had problems with my upper shoulders, arms and neck and of course that darn aging thing doesn't help.  Not sure if this is similar, but it is bothersome and sometimes I can actually hear my bones moving around.  I think it's always best to err on the side of caution and get a medical opinion from your Dr so your mind can be put at ease.

Keep us posted and good thoughts and prayers coming your way for an end to that problem.

Hugs,
Barb

Hi Deb.  Sorry to hear that you are having this problem.

I have not experienced that, however, if I eat too much or fast or drink too fast (especially cold things) I do feel a tightness in my throat and upper chest that is not pleasant and only lasts for a few minutes before subsiding.  I try not to do the things that cause it.

Whoever suggested having your thyroid checked seems like they had a really good idea.

It could be acid reflux too, for which a pepcid would help.  My doc had me taking it for my first 6 months so I would not get acid reflux (though I never had experienced it preWLS).  I stopped taking it regularly, and just bought some more this morning to have on hand just in case. Since I stopped taking it, Ive noticed a difference.  Not anything major.. but enough to notice.

Also, could be trapped gas causing that pressure.  In which case I love Gas-X meltaway strips.  I have not suffered from any of this type of gas since the first two months.. and even then it was mild in comparison to the stories Ive read and heard about... but you never know when it can come back.  So I keep this stuff on hand just in case.

Good luck to you.  I hope you find the cause and a cure and that its nothing serious!  Love & Hugs,

I had my surgery on January 4th... I totally have this exact symptom. When I talked to my dr he said it was either eating to big a bite, too fast, not chewing food good enough. I know if I chew better and slow down I don't seem to get it.

I ran across something described like this. If I recall correctly the article said it was in relation to the restrictive portion of WLS, most commonly experienced by lapband, so your Dr can certainly help if that is the case.  The word started with a 'D'.  So sorry I can't recall what the name of it was!!   tammy
