Don't want to do the pre-op diet/10% weight loss/other stalling requirement? The DMHC can...
But a few will deny you if you drop below a 40 BMI during this required diet. Not all, but some.
It's ridiculous, of course, but the whole pre-op diet can be doubly tricky for a lightweight.

I too questioned the need to lose weight before the surgery. I looked for research and couldn't find why it was so crucial. My doctor became angry when I questioned the need to lose weight and he actually yelled at me for questioning the need to lose weight. I left his office feeling very defeated. At my appointment with my endocrinologist, I asked her based on my medical chart, having a very underactive thyroid and being insulin dependent would she see me as somebody who could lose 25 pounts. She said "No." I asked her why she didn't tell this to me earlier and why I would be asked to do this in order to get a surgery that would save my life. I told her I was very angry and asked if they would make a heart patient lose weight to do a bypass. She said "no."
She called the surgeon and during my next meeting with him, he scheduled my surgery. He was a bit of a jerk towards me, but I wasn't there to be his friend. I find it cruel that people who have a medical remedy available to them are forced to partially treat their disease before they are allowed a treatement. Most of us have gone through hell to get to the point of needing bariatric surgery.

From your surgery date, it appears you had your WLS a couple of days ago, I'm guessing with the ***** who treated you so poorly.
Personally, I would have walked out the door and never gone back after the first round.
I'm grateful that Dr. Pamela Foster's well-known and ridiculous requirement for 10% weight loss is what got me to look for another surgeon -- and I discovered not only another surgeon, but a better surgery.

Unfortunately my insurance seemed to be only with doctors *****quire the 10% weight loss. I really wanted to consider somebody in Monterey, but I would have been completely on my own in terms of paying for the procedure. I just looked at it as a professional arrangement and while I wanted to yell back at this doctor, he was providing what I needed. Luckily my endo made the phone call on my behalf to get the surgery for me. In a better world, I would not have had surgery with him.
Kudos to you for finding a way around this ridiculous requirement!
While it likely behooves you to maintain cordial relations with your surgeon's office, I would take steps to ensure that the vast majority of your follow-up is done through a PCP/endo of your own chosing. It sounds like you have already done so. Good on you!
