So I went to the doctor this morning for the first time with my new insurance and a new PCP. I was nervous to ask for a referral but with everyones encouragement I did. I told him that I wanted to discuss weight loss and he suggested that I do their nutrition program . Not the anwer that I wanted. I then asked how he felt about gastric bypass and he proceded to tell me that I did not qualify that I was not classified as obese. I was like but my bmi is 48. I guess the nurse wrote that i weigh 100lbs less than I really do. So he recalculated and said that i was a candidate. Woo hoo!!!!

He is giving me a refferal for for the bariatrics program. Just have to wait for my letter from them now. My doctor has also had several other patients that have done well on it so he is familiar with gastric bypass... I almost wanted to jump off the table and do the happy dance when he said that he would refer me.
Thanks to everyone that gave me the encouragement to just ask my PCP today for a refferal. I am on my way!!

Congrats on the referal.....My doctor was hesitant also. Some of the Kaiser doctors are just not all that familiar with the procedure but he refered me anyway. I wish I had not lost my Kaiser coverage......

Have a great day

Thanks. Today is the first day in a long time I felt as though I went to a doctor that really wanted to sit down and listen to what I had to say. I know a lot of people don't like Kaiser but I really do. I wish you luck on the rest of your journey.

Well congratulations!!  I had my VSG through Kaiser and while I didn't enjoy the classes I enjoy the support group I go to since surgery!!  Just to give you a little time frame.  From the time my doctor said they would do the referral it was 2 months until I got to the orientation then 2 months before my classes started =)
