Good morning everyone.I hope everyone is well. I had my gbs on jan 14th 2008,since then have lost 120 pounds so far.Feeling great,so grateful. Now I am a compulsive overeater, which I have been doing really well with.I now am in my own place, loving it,but evenings I am wanting to eat.Not hungry just wanting comfort foods.Meaning crackers, popcorn. Now I don't think there is anything wrong with having that sometimes, but I did feel myself just eating mindlessly last nite.As we know, the surgery doesn't fix the brain. Any tips on what helps you in the evenings. thanks alot
Kim

I keep sugar free popsicles in the house.  If I don't have those, then there's nothing in the house to eat!  SF Jello, pudding, all that stuff.  I stay away from the nibbly stuff!

I know what you mean. I had rny on 1/16/08 and I am noticing the snacking wanting to come back.  Behavior modification is the key. When I am bored, I want to eat. When I am sad, I want to eat. Sometimes I will be in the kitchen looking for something that will satisfy that craving, then suddenly I will notice that I am not hungry. I am just going back to that old nasty habit. So then I will get a cup skim milk and find something that will keep my mind busy. By the time I am done drinking my milk I am usually pretty satisfied.  Next time you go for a snack, really think about it. Ask yourself, Am I really hungry? Why do I want this?.. this is just a little suggestion I hope everything works out for you. I know its a hard journey but remember you are not alone.

I am still staying away from carbs, but there have been a couple days that I have not made the best choices and eating at night, late night . Even if I am staying within my limit it is a really bad old habit.NIGHT TIME EATING!!! I have been beating myself up for it. So what I started doing is going back to the very basics. And only having tea (decaf) after 8:00PM even if I am up until 1:00 AM It is motivation to get to bed earlier....I wish LOL!! And I get in my fluids in.

Hang in there and don't fall back into the old ways that got you where you were before WLS.

Yes you have to nip it in the butt because there's not a magic answer to this....

One thing I've learned through this journey is behavior modification.  I have adapted to a new me and a new way of eating.

You really have to dodge those battles and choose to do other things to keep you busy.  Good luck...

Well go and get a pic of yourself before surgery.  Do you want to look like that again?  That is the path you are taking, as I said yesterday on a post, you have been given a tool, it doesn't work if you still eat the wrong foods.  I know that I don't want to be a failure at this, do you?

How's that for some tough love!

Good luck, Diane
