"goal" weight
Ok, so I've heard so many different theories and opinions on what is 'goal' weight.
According to my bariatric surgeon, I think his goal for me was around 140. Which to me seems so very very small and SKINNY.
I come from a Latin background and when I think about what I'd like to look like I imagine curves...and a little extra 'junk in the trunk'. So I set my own goal for about 150-160. This number is in agreement with most standardized charts for a woman of my height (5'5). I believe it's on the higher end of what is considered healthy/normal. My primary care doctor was also in agreement with this number and she also added that ideally I should remain at whatever weight I stabilize at.
I should also add that my body fat percentage is at 30%, that's the high-end of normal for a woman. I know working with my trainer has made me very strong and I carry a lot of muscle. Ideally, I should be below 28%.
So on Saturday at the OH convention I had the opportunity to pull my pants down for a number of plastic surgeons. Really, everyone should experience this in their lifetime. It was especially awkward when the surgeon is attractive like Dr. Quiones.... *blush* :) By the way, THANK YOU to Diane C who came with me to my consult with Dr. Agha. I felt so much better having someone with me!!!
It felt more like I had taken my car to a body shop for en estimate. Except it was my flabby belly that was being pushed and pulled around.
All three surgeons were in agreement:
I should lose another 10-20 pounds before having plastics.
I have a small frame. Who knew? One of the doctors commented that I'm actually a lot smaller than my clothes make me look. Maybe I should get some pants that fit?
Surgery would remove an average of 10-15 pounds of skin.
I was really surprised. Could I possibly be at the end of my weight-loss journey?? My weight has stabilized at 205. It's been like that for a few months. I thought I had another 50-60 pounds to lose and to me, it seemed IMPOSSIBLE and UNATTAINABLE. I was so discouraged and really felt like I had failed at WLS. I'm almost a size 14, and I really thought I would be so much smaller by now. Ideally, I would love to be a size 10.
Losing 20 more pounds seems possible and would leave me at 185. After plastics...maybe 170-175. Very close to what I had imagined as my goal....amazing.
So, for those who have had plastics already.....how did you know how much weight you had left to lose? Please weigh in with you opinions and thoughts....because I really don't know what to think.

I too got nakkid for Dr. Q and he said he can't predict what I will need after the hernia repair and whatever they do with the panni removal. They might do enough for me in that area and then I will only need boobies with Dr. Q! Isn't he a gorgeous doll?!!!! lol and you are right about everyone trying the PS consults, it is pretty cool!!!
All I can say is you are BEAUTIFUL and look GREAT to me!!!! I say go with the flow and see what happens. I think our bodies do know when to stop and who cares what the scale or the charts say!!!! It's our bodies and we need to be comfortable with them and THAT is what should matter!!!! JMHO lol
love and bigg huggs, Becky
Oh and btw, you are FAR FROM a WLS failure, HELLO!!!!!!! Don't make me come and hurt you sweetie!!! lol
Surgery was RNY 5/21/07...I can be found on Facebook: anewbecboo or Becky Reddick
Awww thanks bec, and it was great to see you this weekend. I'm learning that the number on a scale is not 'judgment', it also does not equate to happiness. I want to be happy with where I'm at no matter what the scale says.
You know, it's that darn subtle accent that Dr. Q has that drove me crazy... I'm gonna have to find me my own Latin doctor. :)

I have heard body fat percentage really is the best way to go. My nutritionist told me I was a medium frame. I thought he was nuts till I saw for myself. You very well could be a small frame. Just following your progress...160-150 would be great and anything below that would be the bonus.
Now the tough love. Why the long stall? Many people say they have stalled for months at a certain weight...when really they're cheating on their diet. Adding in carbs, sugar, fried foods can due a number on the weightloss. Your doing great with the exercise. Watch what you bring into the house...AND WATCH WHAT IS EATEN AROUND THE OFFICE!! Been there done that. Back to basics and you'll be fine girl. Brian
You make an excellent point...I'll be honest.
In the past few weeks I have given greater attention to what I'm eating. I began logging in Fit Day again. I even sent the link to my angel and we talk about things and keep me accountable.
It is still a challenge for me to break 1,000 calories a day. I just don't like to eat sometimes. I made eating snacks a part of my schedule, so I try to eat every three hours.
I increased my water from 64 ounces a day to 96 and I began using protein supplements again because I wasn't getting enough with food.
When I do cheat, it's almost always crackers. I love my Cheezit's and wheat thins. I don't buy them anymore unless it's a single serving bag. I can't eat fried foods, they make me sick. Pretty much anything that crunches, I want it.
So now I watch the carbs, and I'm going to see where it goes. I know I also need to work on my running speed. I run at a comforatable pace and I don't push myself like I used to.

I too was seen by lots of the plastic surgerons. Which one did you like?
I just have to say Monica you look GREAT!!!! You are so pretty.
Hugs
You are one absolutely beautiful gal inside and out! You are in no way a WLS failure... you've got TOO much fight and kick in ya gal! Those marathons girl!!! OMG!!! You have TOO much to be proud of!!! You inspire me and heck I may even try that Disney half-marathon!
As far as goal weight. It's where you and your doctors decide, where your body stabilizes at and how you feel in your heart.
We can talk on a personal level and I'll share my story. But it really is about how you feel in your heart of hearts, if your head is okay with that and is it a realistic weight to maintain in a healthy way for life. We all had surgery for our health. That is what brought us here.
Luv ya gal!
Kim
Thanks.... If I can run. ANYONE can do it if they train for it. I'd be glad to run with you.
I want to look like Salma....
