I just found this site a few days ago and have been reading different posts. I do not have a high BMI so any procedure I have will have to be a self-pay. I was all set on having the Realize Band but am getting scared after reading the posts about slippage, food getting stuck, erosion, and having to go in for multiple"fills". I binge on sugar, chocolate and snack foods and I don't exercise much due to back problems. I am more inclined to look into the VSG procedures but haven't talked to the doctor I had the consultation with yet (I'm in Northern CA) and am worried about hospitalization costs. I tend to have a sensitive stomach and irritable bowel and get a lot of gas with a lot of foods so I'm worried about any kind of surgery making this worse. Also, I already have thinning hair and now I read you also lose hair after surgery! Any suggestions from anyone on the procedures?
Most of us here have had a RNY. I would suggest talking to your doctor. If you do not have a high BMI, he might not consider doing the surgery either unless you have co-morbidities such as high blood pressure, diabetes and so forth. I might be wrong about the doctor not willing to the procedure though.
I use to have problems really bad with my stomoch and all that you mentioned, but no longer have the problems. Life is good on the other side!
