I have used the Protein bullets myself not to bad. I have tried the different flavors and the only one I liked was the bluerazzberry.

On the protein powder I use the 100% whey from gnc. It comes in a red bag with many different flavors to try.  Good thing about GNC if u dont like it they will take it back as long as you have the recipt.

I know you said you dont care for dairy products. but try addind a half cup of greek yougurt ( Trader Joes has this in there own brand with 0 fat and 100 calls per cup and 22 grams protein ) makes a nice smoothie. I am 3 months out and still have a couple of these every day.

Hope this hleps

Hi Scott,

Do you remember the brand for the bluerazzberry?

I have 2 GNC shakes, it's the "shake" thing I can't take... the thick texture.  I dont think I could do the fage stuff, but it could be worth a try but I don't think it's what I'm looking for.  lol

Thanks hon!

Hey Scott,
Thanks for posting about the GNC protien. I never shop there, but now that I know they take it back if I dont' like it that is good to know.

I use Nectar Sweets protein powder, either choc. truffle or vanilla. I mix it with water, 8 oz. per scoop, it is not thick at all. You may also use sugar free Torani syrups for additional flavor, I like hazelnut in the choc. or raspberry in the vanilla. I get the protein at Vitamin Shoppe, they are good about taking protein back too if you dont like it. The protein bullets are too sweet or strong for me, I have had them in the past and had to dilute them with alot of water. Some people in my support group mix their protein with decaf. coffee.  Hope these ideas help.

Ok. this is what I did and tell many others to try.
Take 4oz crystal light and a scoop of protein powder.  Mix the 4 oz with the one scoop.  They shake it. I would put 3 ice cubes and drink that over 1/2 an hour.  I did that 4 times a day and got 100 gms or close to it in a day that way.
Hope you can get over what gags you and have success.
You said you don't like the shakes. Try nectar they are not thick.

I can NOT stand the shakes. Never could, never will. I'm also allergic to milk.  The bullets were my life saver. I got the 42 gram ones and half the bullet in the morning and half in the evening. They are not the best but it only takes one swallow and half the bullet is down. I can stand one swallow of just about anything. I also just recently found Nectar. I like the fuzzy navel flavor. Mix it with water and it goes down like juice. MUCH better. Wish I would have tried it sooner.

Good luck
Sue

I loved the protein "bullets" for my first month or two post op. They are a very easy way to get in alot of protein in a small amount of liquid.

www.protica.com

They are a bit pricey, but I felt so well worth it.

Also, there is a drink out there called Acheive One.....it's pretty good, but it does have caffeine in it.

I use Soy protein powder, with Soy milk, and I really like it. Just please be sure to get all your protein in........I am learning as I recovery from my plastics just how important it is for the promotion of healing.

I know for me the bullets are a life saver for me. I have one every morning. I can't stomach the powder stuff. If just doesn't go down well. I love the grape flavor of the bullets. Good luck!

I too am having protein issues, though mine are a little different:

-I am in the minority in that have never learned to like coffee (except coffee ice cream) so all the recipes that mimick a Starbucks frappucino are not anything I would want to drink.

-I can drink milk, and I am also okay with Soy Milk (the brand I like is Silk).

-Isopure doesn't appeal to me at all. I tried one bottle--yuck! I am not really a fruit punch person so all of these fruity flavors kinda gross me out.

-I don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners--to me they taste fake, artificial, and too darned sweet. My NUT wants me to avoid aspartame. She isn't thrilled about Splenda either but if I had to have Splenda because the only way I could get protein down would be through a Splenda protein powder she said it would be okay. But she prefers agave nectar over Splenda. But again, I don't really like the way anything tastes when Splenda is added to it. (Even Eggface's protein ice cream tasted funny to me--I used a Sugar Free Torani syrup and I thought it tasted, well, very artificial. I couldn't fini**** Not Eggface's fault. I may try the recipe again with agave nectar.)

-I have Nectar Roadside Lemonade and I find it is too sweet and it tastes artificial. Ditto for their Iced Tea with Lemon. "Normal" lemonade and iced tea are CLEAR drinks. The fact that the Nectar drinks are not see through kinda grosses me out. Who likes cloudy lemonade? Ack!  I might try the Lemonade in my new ice cream maker and turn it into sorbet--because sorbet generally is not see through! Also, since ice cream tastes less sweet when it is cold then when it has melted, I think that the overly sweet problem with the Nectar *might* go away if I turn it into a frozen dessert.

- I have Jay Robb Whey Protein in Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry flavors.  These are made with stevia and don't have artificial ingredients in them. However, out of these three flavors, I can really only say that the chocolate tastes decent.   I used the Vanilla in the protein ice cream and it wasn't that great. But it isn't even great plain either.

All in all, I don't like all this "FAKE FOOD" that the protein powder protocol forces us into. I like eating normal whole foods, not "doctored" protein powders.

I would rather just eat some cottage cheese or have a glass of milk.
