BALD AS A BABIES BUTT!

I USE TO HAVE ENOUGH HAIR FOR ME, YOU, HER & HIM.

I HAVE HAD NATURALLY CURLY HAIR THAT EVERYONE HAS COMMENTED ON. I HAVE HAD PEOPLE RUN UP TO ME TO ASK ME WHERE I GOT MY HAIR PERMED ONLY TO LET THEM DOWN WHEN I WOULD TELL THEM IT WAS NATURALL.  NOW - - - I HAD RNY - WLS ON 5/5/08. I SUFFERED FROM MAJOR COMPLICATIONS LESS THAN 1 WEEK AFTER & AT ONE MONTH OUT I HAD TO HAVE A SECOND SURGERY.

MY START WEIGHT WAS 227.5. DAY OF SURGERY I WAS AT 209. TODAY - 5 MONTHS OUT - I AM AT 146.  GREAT!!!! I LOVE THE SIZE OF ME. I HATE THE EXTRA SKIN & THE SAGGINESS OF IT. I ALSO HATE THE FACT THAT I AM GOING BALD -still-

ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER WLS I STARTED LOOSING MY EYELASHES & EYEBROWS. A WEEK OR SO LATER MY HAIR STARTED TO COME OUT. NO BIGGIE! WE WERE WARNED THAT THIS WAS A SIDE EFFECT. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON LOSES 10-25% OF THEIR HAIR. WELL, I HAVE LOST ABOUT 90% OF MY HAIR. I GET HANDFULLS COMING OUT AT A TIME.

NOW I EXPECTED THIS TO HAPPEN BUT I ALSO EXPECTED IT TO SLOW DOWN & STOP BY NOW. SO, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRAY FOR ME. I GET TO GO WIG SHOPPING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE. IT IS SAD. YOU CAN SEE MY SCALP. I AM ALMOST AFRAID TO EVEN TOUCH MY HAIR.

WHAT DO I DO>? I ASKED MY SURGEON & HE SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE MORE HAIR LOSS THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE COMPLICATIONS I HAD. SO, I KNOW WHY I LOST SO MUCH. BUT WHEN WILL IT STOP???

MY QUESTION TO ALL OF YOU IS WHEN DID IT STOP 4 U? WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP IT? WHERE CAN I PURCHASE A WIG THAT WONT LOOK FAKE & STUPID BUT ALSO WONT BE EXPENSIVE?

 THANK YOU ALL!!! ~ MWAH~

Good Morning Sara....

I am really sorry about the problems you have had. But WOW on you loss.

Now you are not going to like my answer about hair. I had hair past my behind, and VERY thick, and I worried big time about losing my hair, so I started taking my botien the day I started my classes with Kaiser, so I never had that problem. At 6 month post op, I cut all my hair off, to right below my shoulders. (sent the 18 inch briad to Locks for love) My hair is still very thick and very heathy. (and as of yesterday a new color that I LOVE) Dont know if you are taking your botien or not, you didnt say. And I don't know if it would hel*****t, but it sure would not hurt that is for sure. I think you should starting taking it. I take 2 pills in the morning, 1 at lunch, and 2 at bed time.

You should check into it and talk to others about it.

Best of luck, Honey.

I have not lost any hair and before surgery my hair was thin.  It's now thicker, then it's been in years.  Now before surgery I read many a profile and even goggled hair loss and came up with this vitamin hair regime that I have been taking since the month before surgery.

1 5000mcg biotin
1 50mg zinc
1 200mcg Selinium
1 200IU Vitamin E
1 300mg Silica (aka Horsetail)

WOW - That is alot to take. But it is worth a try at this point. I just want it to stop. I was tempted to go get some ROGAINE!

I have to agree with the Biotin. I take 5000 mcg a day. It helped me get fingernails for the first time in my life too!! lol  I've always bitten them and never thought I'd get fingernails out of my WLS, but hey, I'll take it!! lol
Nioxin works for some too. It is a shampoo and conditioner and you can get it at any beauty supply. My stepfather swears by it for his thinning hair.
As for wigs, try HSN's Toni Brattin. She makes GREAT wigs and hair extensions. http://beauty.hsn.com/toni-brattins-beauty-secrets_c-bs_a-16 1_xc.aspx?prev=hp!sf On most of them they have a link to see the video of when she was on the air showing how each piece works. My mom wears one of her pieces EVERY day and she has a ton of them! They are pretty reasonable priced too!
Hope this helps!!! Congrats on your GREAT success ~WOW!!!

Hi Sara,

Just wanted to give you some pricing info on Biotin.  I just bought a bottle from Kaiser pharmacy, it was a whole $5 for a bottle!  Loved the price compared to GNC.  Here's the info:

Nature's Blend
Hi -Potency BIOTIN
100 tablets (1000 mcg).

I've been losing handfulls of hair too but sadly this is not caused by wls.  Stress gets all the credit for this one. (LOL)  I've read great reviews, did my own research and even my Doctor said to give it a try.

Take care,
Monica

THANK U ALL FOR YOUR WONDERFUL ADVICE. I WAS ACTUALLY LOOKING AT THAT SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER STUFF. ITS WAY EXPENSIVE.  I AM GONNA TRY THE VITAMINS 1ST & SEE HOW THAT GOES.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

I really don't think shampoos really do anything but cost alot of money and not really take care of the hairloss problem.  I used to have a full head of hair, but even before I thought about WLS I had problems with it falling out.  It ended up being my thyroid.  Make sure that is also working fine, and internal fixes are much better.  That would be the vitamin approach.  By the way, Lu did mean Biotin.

Good luck, my hair is growing slowly, I may try Ms Shells hair treatment vitamin s.  SOunds interesting.  Make sure you are also taking daily vitamins that include calicum, iron and follow the weightloss surgerons advice on what to take.  By the way, I have had 2 surgeries since weight loss, and when they give you anastesia (sp) that doesn't help either, but it usually comes back

Hey Sara,

So sorry to hear about your hair loss.  Like everyone else, I suggest the biotin too.  I get mine at Target and it's not expensive at all.

I lost hair till around a year out.. but not nearly as much as you.  I'm soo sorry to hear that.

Good luck,
