TEN YRS POST OP! DS Surg. Need referral in LA
Hi, I am hoping I can get some assistance here. I had my surgery (DS) done ten yrs ago at USC University Hospital by the wonderful Dr. Gary Anthone who has since relocated to Nebraska (lucky Nebraska!). I know Dr. Crookes is at USC now however I would love to find another physician in the LA area. I have been told I need both an endoscopy and colonoscopy and rather than start out seeing a gastroenterologist, I want to consult with the surgeon. I feel it is important to find a doctor that either has done the DS before or is currently still doing it. I have not found any doctors listed in the physician directory here that have done DS in Los Angeles area.
I started out at 320 lbs., got down as low as 132 (for a day or so only :) and mostly have stayed around 152-162. I am up now to 173 but know what that is caused by (SUGAR!! sweets!!!). Anyway, any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Please don't forget about the DS forum here on OH and/or the website www.duodenalswitch.com I hope I spelled that right. Good luck darlin =)

Congratulations on your 10 successful post-op years.
Dr. Crookes is the only DS surgeon in Southern California. The next closest DS surgeon is Dr. Keshishian in Delano (near Bakersfield), and then there are the DS surgeons up in the Bay Area.
We have many DSers in the So. Cal/ Los Angeles Area who get together regularly and we'd love to have you join in. Let me know if you are interested.
edited to add: Oh Heck! I just saw that you are in O.C. There is a DS support group that meets in Anaheim on the first Thursday of each month. The October meeting is this coming Thursday evening. Here is the info from a recent announcement:
The next support group meeting is this coming Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 6-8pm. It is held at Grace Lutheran Church. 700 W. South St, Anaheim, CA 92802 and is very easy to reach from the 5 freeway.
The first hour is an informational time for those interested in learning about Weight Loss Surgery. The second hour is the general support meeting for post-ops.
From our group leader: "October with its Halloween emphasis (skeletons and all) we will look at calcium and our requirements. Bring your calcium to the meeting and we'll compare labels. We'll also talk about the consequences of too little or too much calcium."
This meeting is offered by Pacific Laparoscopy but is open to all DSers in the Southern California area. You do not need to be a patient of PacLap/Dr. Rabin in order to attend.
