Well, guess what..I had a mild heart attack at some point in the last year or so.  I guess 4 EKGs can't ALL be wrong.  I am now officially a cardiac patient, on a cardiac med. Geeewhizzzz, just as I was getting it all together.  Has anybody elso dealt with this and bariatric issues??  It's too late in the day to find out if this is going to really hinder my WLS, and I am too keyed up to wait until tomorrow to see if I am still a candidate.  I'd love to hear expereinces with this issue...
God Bless us one and all

Hi Katt...again, as per usual these last fews days..I can't stop crying,  I read up on the medication, LoPresser..(and I have a statin Rx also).good greif..it stands in the way of any healing I want to do.  I do not have high BP and I already take a diuretic for water retention.  This stuff makes one gain weight and swell!!.  I am going to corner the cardiologist ...tomorrow,!! and find a new fix.
thanks for the caring, you are a Dear,

Oh Kim,  That is one of those good news, bad news things.  Yes it is good news because it is so important to know and then it's bad news because now it is another thing you have to deal with.  Do ever remember having some chest pains?  Maybe you thought it was heartburn?  Our bodies have minds of their own sometimes.  As women sometimes we are so busy taking care of everyone and everything else, that we miss taking care of ourselfs.  That has been me for years as I have 9 children.  My family is having a bit of a hard time now that I am taking care of me and me first.  I don't think they like it very much, but they are just going to have to get used to it I guess.  I am sure you will still be able to have your surgery they will just have to take extra precautions with you.  I am sure they will agree that the extra weight is not good for your heart.  You have been and will continue to be in my prayers.  Keep us posted on you and what is going on.
(((hugs)))

Rhonda..yes to both chest pains and heartburn.  I remember the chest pain, very isolated and specific..and I also remember it was during the most stressful time in my life..this last year as my mother's caretaker and caregiver.  I would just press on it and it would stop...my own form of acupressure I guess.  The heartburn has been recent, but it was when I started the chewable Vit. C and found it was doing that.  Now i take it with food.  The BP meds dropped my BP waaaay to low tonight..95/60, I became very sleepy and lethargic..so I took a nap..then woke up a bit later with BP 113/65..better, but extremely low for me.  I usually run the usual 120/80 or a bit lower.
I hope I'll have the opportunity to see the surgeon again and discuss this issue, I pray he doesn't cancel me.  I know some people that had the procedure and also have cardiac issues, so I will probably just fall in a new folder of a different color..lol  I did tell my family though...some things are gonna CHANGE around here..starting with their in home food!..If I can live heart healthy..so can they.  I've always been aware of good choices in my home cooking, but I admit a fallin' off the wagon on occassion, to suit the needs of my family. (ok..an occassional weakness for me too..love my Amish Friendship Bread!!  yummmm)
I will pace tomorrow until I hear from the Surgicenter...keeping fingers crossed!!
Thak you for your care...Kim in Fontana

Kim,
Thank goodness that they found out. The goal is to bring you into surgery safe and for you to come out of it safely.  It may require you to see the cardiologist and get a clearance from her/him.  They may do a stress test or something just to make sure you are safe.  Lopressor  is a beta blocker that they use on people who have had some cardiac issues.

Hi Liz..
I was lucky to get into a cardiologist today..just 2 days after my initial denial.  He did a history, then did 2 additional EKGs...they both told the same story..he even showed me in all FOUR EKGs where the same situation is.  (I had a MUGA Scan and that was perfect!!..good strong heart )  He pointed to my heart area that is in question and I have to admit.,.that is where the pain had been.  He evaluated and put me on some meds including 81 mg. of asprin...I dunno know how well that is going to go over with WLS.  Also a Statin which I always have trouble with..so he made it  super low dose...and ofcourse a BP med..that one I question after researching it.  He cleared me for surgery from his point of view..now just up to the Bari-surgeon.  He does want me to come back in 3-6 months for a stess test and possible angiogram...said they will be easier on a less weighted person.  I am so very greatful for that..I just don't want anything like that now.  I can follow doc's orders and do as I'm told..heck..I love my pre-op diet..lol  But Ladies and Gents and kids of all sizes...I never thought it would be me at a cardiologist..that was EVERYBODY else.  I really hate reality checks..lol  If only I had listened and paid attention 25 yrs ago...even to Richard Simmons..lol  Now I am trying to get my daughters to see the light..especially the one who ONLY eats fast food...she thinks she is invincible...well..so did I.  That daughter is 21..just the right age to have her health go either direction...siiiiiiiighhhhh.  All I can do is revamp my example and live the truth...and ofcourse, listen to my doctors, friends and most of all  God!!  love to all..good night

When I went to a cardiologist for the first time as part of the pre-op insurance requirements I found out I too had a "cardiac incident" sometime in my life.  My EKG was abnormal--not dangerous but strange.  I was already on low dose aspirin, HBP (two different kinds) and something for high cholesterol.  And yes they did surgery, no question.  I did well afterwards until nausea struck at 3 1/2 weeks.  I am now on composine to settle things down--rather my new tiny tummy which I call my grouchy pouchy.  So hang in there.  The surgeon will know if it is safe or I you need to wait.  And really you don't want this surgery if you will die as a result.  My cardiologist cleared me, yours cleared you.  Now it is up to the surgeon.  Good luck.
