I had posted this under a different heading, and was suggested that I post with new heading, so here goes. And thanks in advance for any suggestions or info.
Thanks Red. And actually I do have some questions on my labs. My doc sent the lab slip, and had the work done. Then I emailed them to make sure they got the results, and they said they had several "Joann's" which one was I. So I replied with my full name and the date of my surgery, and have never heard from them since...and I emailed them again to find out...still nothing. I need to go see my PCP, however don't think he is very aware of the issues that can come up with the DS. For instance, my Folic Acid results are high (21.0 for me and the scale shows normal as 3.0 to 17.0) Is this something far enough over the range to be concerned? My MPV (not sure just what that is, be seems to be related to anemia) is 7.1, which is low. Potassium is 108 (high) and so is my HDL cholesterol (62) My Vitamin D is high, 81 (range 15 to 75) I only have 14% of saturation of iron (20-50 range)
I realize this is a lot of stuff for one post, just not sure if any of the numbers are so off that I should be alarmed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had my surgery Aug 2005. And have two lab rpts the most drastic change was in the Vit D, went from 42 to 81...almost double. Platelet count from 7.6 to 7.1, Cholesterol 55 to 62, cloride from 107 to 108. I read on one of the threads that someone had some type of Lab sheet. Not sure if it would help with the comparisons?
I have a tracker, but with only two labs you can visually look at those.....I get labs done every 6 months to keep on top of things.....Dr K or your pcp doesn't recommend labs more often?

"Several Joann's", you've got to be kidding me? Medical labs and doctors office should be working with medical record numbers, patient id numbers, etc. to make sure there is NO CONFUSION as to which results go to which person. Personally, I'd call the doctor and pay his office a visit shortly thereafter to make sure you have the proper results and can have the doctor properly interpret the results for you. I've NEVER had any lab results emailed to me. I have appointments, and speak directly with the doctor about the results. I even leave with a full copy of the latest lab reports, that also contain comparison levels from previous tests. Call your DS surgeon. DAVE

Yes, Dave, you would THINK his office would have better communication. All my problems with that office started with incorrect information, (which I questioned them on) and since then, I have never heard back....about ANY of my tests. The last tests that I got anything back on, I was sent a letter stating to up my calcium intake. Not how much, so I sent an email...was told to up it to 3000. When I saw him shortly after that, I asked about some cramping in my ankles and feet. He said to eat more salt. A few months later, they had a group meeting here, which I missed, and heard that one of the symptoms of low calcium was cramping in your feet and ankles. I immediatly emailed and asked about the different information, and have never heard back from them since....odd in my opinion.
Was actually surprised to see that they sent me a lab slip at all, but if not going to let me know the results, not sure just why they did. His office is about an 8 hour drive for us, so just going to them is quite an endeavor.

You have to be careful with the "normal" ranges that are on your lab results. Sometimes they are not based on very good information. For example, a Vitamin D level of 15 is horrible, not normal. My lab said it should be at least 30 but some people think it should be higher.
It also depends on what test was done. There are a couple of ways to both measure and report your results. This article says that by one scale, your levels should be 20 to 60 but by another scale, they should be 50 to 150.

Vitalady says you should aim for 80-100 but I don't know which scale she is using.
HDL cholesterol - it should be above 50 according to the info I have. That's the "good" cholesterol so higher is actually better.
The rest of the numbers I haven't done any research on so I don't know one way or another.

Thanks for all the info. I am going to check out that site you gave me the link to. Will be calling my PCP today and see when I can get in to see him. And if I feel like he is "poo-pooing" my concerns, will just ask to be switched to another doctor in the office. I won't be the first.
I had all my labs done at our local hospital. Having to fast for them, I can only have them done there because of my hours. I go in on the weekend for them. I know some of the tests are sent to an outside lab, and some are done there.
Will let you all know what I find out.
