I'm on stage 2 of liquids today, YAY me!!

Question about puking.  I haven't puked YET.  Just want to know that when trying new foods, should I stand over sink, bowl etc?  Is it IMMEDIATE or does it take a bit to come up?  I just want to be prepared and not sitting in bed, lol

Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Hi Turtle Gurl...

Not everyone pukes. In fact, I'm 4+ years post-op and I have yet to puke, once since surgery.

I suggest you take a small sip... and wait a 10-15 minutes and see how your body/tummy reacts to it before taking another sip. Slow and small definitely wins the race here - but, then you know that being Turtle Gurl.

Good luck to you - hope you're not a puker!

I'm like Patty. Not a puker. Even when my stomach hurts...I have a hard time puking now.

But think of you tummy as a new born baby. Try new things one day at a time so you will know what works and what doesn't.

I'm with you - there are times when my stomach hurts or I've felt so nauseous that I wish I could puke... I've tried a few times to make myself puke - no luck.

Me, I'm a puker.. still am.   From my experiences, it is not sudden. Puking is in no way the same as it use to be.   First your saliva will get foamy, and you will kinda spit it up.. then your food will come up a little at a time.  I usually have to cough it up. It doesn't not have that horrible taste and smell as it use to, because of the lack of stomach acid.   I know I get bad pouchie pain.  almost like I swallowed a brick..

At least that's how it happens for me!  Others may be different, but I'm giving you my take on it!!

Good luck!

Pre op at the support group meetings I asked what puking was like post op.  They said it is like "baby spit up".  I really didn't know what they meant till it happened.  That is the best way to describe it.  Just be sure you eat slowly and test everything first.  Within a few minutes your pouch will let you know if he or she likes the new stuff or is rejecting it.  If it is rejecting the food...wait a few minutes and let the pouch settle down.  Fun days ahead...trial and error.  Eat very very slowly.  Brian

I'm a puker still. If you don't chew enough (20X) your pouch will hurt or you'll feel a burn and pressure below your esophagus (where your new stomach sits). One can't help but puke only it's like a small hairball or two. Sometimes white foam (the foamies) come up. Even water will hurt going down. It passes pretty quickly and you'll learn to chew your food well especially at restaurants. If you see a girl running like hell through a restaurant to the restroom... you know they've had gastric bypass!!!

I'm a puker!!! I have to walk around with a ziploac bag in my purse. I also have a bucket the moves from room to room with me.

Just take it easy and makes notes what makes you sick..

I did fine the first 2 weeks--week 3 things started coming up again.  I wake up nauseous and know that I can't eat until the grouchy pouchy settles downs--usually about 1 or 2 in the afternoon.  My after care nurse had me cut back on my fluids yesterday since that amount of liquid can make you puke and so far today it is better.

When I d throw up it take about 5 or 10 minutes--so I am 2 or 3 bites in.  First I feel "full"--that means stop.  If I continue, I burp, have the foamies and end up in the bathroom or stopping beside the road and opening my door.  Sometimes I continue for hours and end up with dry heaves.  Composine does stop it if I can keep the pill down long enough.  I have a bucket beside the bed and can get to a sink or a bathroom quickly in my house.  The outside world is harder and I cannot predict whether the egg I tolerated well one day will stay today.  The after care nurse said that just happens and  I should get better.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.  Helga
