Hey there everyone,

Upper GI's really aren't that bad. You do have to drink the barium, which is kinda nasty, but other than that, they're pretty quick and painless.

I did mine last week....
first they gave me a VERY fizzy couple sips of something
then I drank the barium...gagged it back up...had to reswallow....
the thing I was standing on then went to the laying down position, and I had to drink a different kind of 'goo' then roll over every which way...and then they just had me standing again while doing their thing...it wasn't painful in anyway...but that stuff to drink was hard for *me* to swallow....

Hi Melissa, I had an upper g.i before my surgery. It takes about 3 hours. The barium was ok. Then I had to drink lots of water to help the barium move. One tip: do lots of walking in between the imaging. It helps get the barium moving faster. Good luck! =)

Ummm...Expect to have this loooooooooooooong tube shoved down your throat while you try to gasp for AIR!  It's horrible!!!!

I'm just kidding

It was a piece of cake.  I was so out of it I did not feel a thing other than just a little dicomfort around my throat area...it'll be fine...They know what the heck they are doing.

Enjoy it!
