Kaiser and Tummy Tucks
OK so this is what is happening with my Kaiser plastics. They are doing an extended pannilectomy, which is the top and bottom rolls, lol. My surgeon says they dont normally do them but I more than qualify. So I would suggest asking your doctor about that. I think the butchering depends on the doctor. I love mine, he did great with my chest and he believes he should do what is best for the patient not necessarily Kaiser. Make sure you like and are comfortable with the doctor. I see mine for follow up next week and I keep thinking of questions regarding the tummy tuck, lol. Good luck with your plastics and hope this helped a little!!

Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations.
I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty,
believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

My appt is on Thursday the 25th at 3pm. I plan to ask the surgeon regarding removing everything. If he's only going to do the panni. I'll request for a second opinion. I'm crossing my fingers I don't have to go through hoops. I'm not going to complain much cuz I only have to pay my little co-payment.
When they remove the excess skin, I've always thought I would like to just smu**** with my feet and curse it for all them years! LOL
Cool...keep me posted!

Hey Gus,
As with all things Kaiser, it really depends upon where you are going and the policies at that center. I saw a plastic surgeon through my referral at Kaiser Fontana. The PS they sent me to was at Ontario Vineyard. She was less than helpful. In the Fontana area, they currently will only do a panniculectomy - they will not move your belly button, they will not muscle tighten, they will not go for the best looking result. This is what the lady told me. I had been sent because of rashes below and above my belly button and the complication of low hanging breasts onto my upper abdomin causing rashes. The dermatologist recommended that I have a full abdominoplasty along with something done for my breasts. This meant NOTHING to PS at Ontario Vineyard. I had to attend a panni removal class and understand the difference of what they were going to do. I asked the PS at Ontario Vineyard about another opinion since the derm that had sent me had said I needed something else. She sent me for a 2nd opinion and said that would need to be done at Kaiser West LA because that is where they specialize in plastics. This lady was very mean and cruel to me even saying that if I hadn't allowed myself to get so fat that I wouldn't be in this situation!
Anyway, I went to my consult at West LA and saw Dr. Touran. I really liked him. He agreed that I had to have a panni removal but that the result would be less than great because I had lots of extra skin on my hips/butt and outer thigh as well. He said he could do an extended tummy tuck but that would leave me with dog ears due to the excess skin on my backside. He did approve that I needed a medically approved breast lift and that the roll of skin on my upper belly had to be removed. He suggested I see Dr. Lee for a consult on a belt lipectomy / lower body lift. I saw him and liked his ideas. I had to pay the difference between the panni removal and belt lipectomy - about $12,000 because Kaiser won't cover that procedure. I really love the results of the more than 20lbs of excess skin/tissue being removed. His work is great. I have had several abnormal complications that are a result of my body doing something abnormal. I have several times formed large seromas, once becoming infected requiring another surgery, and I've had 2 more surgeries due to the fact that my skin does not want to adhere back to the muscle. I keep forming a pseudobursa lining and large "open" pockets of fluid that are causing me problems. Last week, I went back to have my back "quilted" down. These are rare problems and are more of an autoimmune type of reaction on my part. They have not had another patient with these same problems.
I would recommend that you ask all your questions to your plastic surgeon. Ask about facia/muscle tightening, belly button repositioning and such. Also ask for another opinion at West LA from someone like Dr. Touran or Dr. Lee and see what they tell you.
Best of luck,
Jennie
