Hi,
Newcomer here....,has anyone had surgery through the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, specifically with Dr. Fuller?

I think my insurance is giving me a bit of runaround or roadblock and it's working! I am confused to the point of thinking of giving up. I am wondering if anyone has had the Lapband procedure through Dr. Fuller/UC Davis Medical Group. I received the health questionaire in the mail on Friday and the first disappointment I notice is the description of the TYPE OF SURGERY performed is listed as gastric stapling with roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy. I was told by my insurance that this is the only place they would cover me for the procedure of Lapband and now it would seem that they don't do that procedure at all!

I am hoping and praying that someone can tell me that is not the case, again if anyone has had the Lapband surgery through Dr. Fuller I would really appreciate any information you would be willing to share with me. Thank you so much.

Hi Brenda,   I did not have my surgery through UC Davis Medical Center, but I just wanted to welcome you to the Cali board and to tell you not to GIVE UP!!!! This is the best site to be for any information...They all are GREAT here!!!!
Remember it is your health and body so you have to fight for what you want and don’t take no for an answer.
Good luck…I wish you the best!!!   Michele

Thank you so much Michele!
I so appreciate the welcome and the words of encouragement. I promise I won't give up, just a temporary moment of frustration earlier after so many years of it, (frustration). But I will keep up the good fight!!! And continued success and good health to you!!!

Dr Fuller did my RNY. I go to regular support groups and I know that they are starting to do more lap bands at UCDMC. Whether that is Fuller of Ali I don't know.

I am completely and absolutely 100% happy with my surgery so I don't think you should give up on them.

Thank you for the info, I really appreciate your time. My optomism has been refreshed by your message. I will not give up on UC Davis, I will just have to make the long drive there for the initial consult to find the answer as to if they can or will offer me the procedure that I seek, (LapBand). I did call and ask but surprisingly the woman I spoke with seemed herself unsure and hesitant..., hmmm. Oh well,  a journey of a 1,000 miles..... Thanks to you again for taking the time to reply to me and continued success and good health to you.

Hi ~

Dr. Fuller will do the Lap Band, but it isn't his favorit.  He will discuss this with you.

Thanks Annabelle,

I appreciate the info. I have been afraid of the big step of RNY but just got a call from my primary doctor who had my hip x-rayed last week, advanced arthritis. So, maybe I need to do the more drastic measure of the RNY??? If I may ask, is that what you had? How are you doing and why am I so fearful of this procedure? Anyway, thanks again for your response to my earlier question.
