I have a date....EEEK
Hi there everyone ---
My name is Melissa and I have been lurking and learning for a long time here on OH. I have finally just got a date for Oct 7th and now I am a little panicky. All of a sudden I am freaking out that I am not ready and I don't know what I need to do. Any advice on what I need to get done before surgery to make myself the most successful and what to do right after will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Melissa

My first suggestion is just to relax and breath. I'll gather that as a lurker you've also been researching and I have faith that you'll be ready right??
I cleaned my house, bought protein samples, broth, jello and soup to be stocked at home. The saturday before surgery I got a mani/pedi and a massage and body scrub. I think everyone should do that!!

Welcome to the Cali forum =) and CONGRATULATIONS!!
Hi Melissa,
I too just received a date last week (September 23) and after I hung up the phone with the scheduler, I was numb. That's not the reacttion I anticipated; I thought I would be jumping for joy; and I am, but I am panicking as well. So don't feel alone because I feel the same way you do.

Pam--Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one to panic when everything I have been for the last year plus comes true. I keep telling myself to breathe and just get my act together for all the appointments I have for the next month. And best of luck to both of us.
Ms Shell---- Thanks for the advice. I especially like the idea of pampering myself before surgery. I always love reading you posts. Thanks again.

Hi Melissa,
You should be taking 500 to 1000 mg of Vitamin C per day, drinking protein shakes once to twice daily (you can get sample packets from www.bariatricadvantage.com ), doing 30 to 60 mins of exercise daily (i.e. walking), drinking 70 ozs. of water daily, teach yourself how to eat very very slowly and learn to use desert plates for your meals instead of regular dinner plates. All of these things will help your body bounce back quickly with little complications. There are a ton of books out on the market talking about wls. I have read 4 of them. One very comprehensive book is " The Dummie's Guide to Weight Loss Surgery". Check your local library first, then check a bookstore or Amazon.com . There is no need to be nervous, if you prepare yourself.
Good luck,
Kim

Without struggle, there is no progress.
Breathe. Relax. Let your mind wander (to that spot where you're thin and loving live and reached your goal weight) and most of all relax. My date is on Monday. I just got my ,massage and visit to the chiropracter, manicure tomorrow. pedicure on Friday, and a Saturday outing with my hubby. and Sunday is "Princess" day where me and my dedicated throne will be best friends.
Basically you've done your research, you've made your decision now relax and enjoy this new era in your life.
Each time you go to the store, buy some broth, soup, and stock up on what youll mneed
