Question on Food Making you sick

I just want to confirm that this is normal and it is just food making me sick. I have had this happen on a few occasions now and just want to confirm that it is normal and also what happens when you eat something that makes you sick.

Saturday night I was eating part of a baked potato, which I have eaten okay before but I also tried some chili beans just eating the kidney and pinto beans. Suddenly I get a not so great feeling in the center top of my ribs. It is major pain that feels like your poor little stomach is being blown up like a baloon and causes pain and the feeling of heartburn. You want to burp but cant and you want to get rid of it anyway you can. It sometimes causes my face to heat up and a very thick mucos type spit to back up into your mouth. Sorry for the graphic details.

Is this normal? I have tried chicken, ground turkey and a few other meats they go down fine but once they are in the pouch they just kill me. It's enought to make you swear to be a vegetarian? I am even afraid now to try thinly scliced deli turkey.  Help please.... Lori W

Yes, that feeling is normal..  I still get that feeling and the foamies (the saliva)..  It more than likely means you either ate too much, too fast or you didn't chew enough.. Or your tum tum just didn't like that meal today.  But I am very familiar with those feelings you have described.  I had a LOT of trouble with meat the first year out of surgery.. the sliced deli meat seemed to work the best for me.

I remember, turkey and chicken had to be VERY moist in order to keep it down or not be painful.. and beef... ohh it didn't sit well till at least a year and a half out..  but.. that is also just me!

Everyone reacts to food differently and at different stages!

Good luck,

Renee

Hi Lori,   Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with some of the types of foods you’re eating.  I haven’t tried a baked potato, but like Renee said that lunch meat is much easier. A lot like you I haven’t been able to eat chicken turkey. I can eat ground turkey. And, for lunch meat that is what Dr. Lamar suggested and it is just fine for me. I eat lunch meat and cheese just about everyday for lunch. I also get hot face and very thick mucus type spit…Renee is correct…eating to fast, to much, or not chewing enough. When eating you just have to remember chew, chew, and chew. I also notice…if I eat slowly I can tell when not to have that last bite.   Best of luck!!!   Michele

Ohh, what I love to do, get turkey lunch meat, put  a slice of cheese on top, a little spicy mustard and then some  fresh baby spinach, and roll it up.  Dee Lishhh!  Best way to eat  a "sandwich"

I've been having problems with chicken and turkey the last week.  I switched to tofu, cottage cheese and ricotta (very good with 1/4 C Classico spaghetti sauce and some cheese then baked).  Cottage cheese and tuna works well too.  I tried sliced deli ham and string cheese with no problems either.  If I stick to these and my protein powder drinks, my tummy behaves.

My doc says no potatos, rice, noodles, bread or breakfast cereals and no beans either.  I've avoided all but the beans.  Any time my carb count goes up I get the hungries, so no thanks. lol

The potato may be swelling in your pouch once any saliva or other liquidy thing gets there too.

Good luck.  It's an interesting and ever changing journey. :-)

I can't say if that is "normal" But I know anytime I eat to fast or drink too fast I get pain in the middle of my chest and in my back. And feel like hell for 1/2 hour or so.
For mr tiny, sloooooooow bites of food.

HUGS

Thank you all for your replies.  I will try some of the deli scliced turkey with cheese. I will cut out potato and beans for now and try beans and other meats later.
