Run Along Side Me
So all this talk of running in the last few days has really become a life lesson and an extended metaphor for WLS. I'm thinking about all this as I sit here getting ready to run my first half-marathon in about 24 hours.
My crazy running friends Kirsten, Kevin and Kim have been awesome. When I needed advice they have been there to help me out. Kim!! When we ran our double-digit run together and were so tired at the end I told you "I don't think I can do 13 miles!"...and you told me "It's ok baby, just do what you can." You have no idea how that motivated me to go just a little further!!!
I look back at all my 5k pictures from the last year and they are filled with OH faces that have been 'running along side' me for this journey in many different ways.
Just like running, the journey after WLS is like a very long race that we all have to complete at our own pace. Some people will finish before you and some after you, it doesn't matter when you reach your goal...as long as you get there. BUT THE JOURNEY IS SO MUCH EASIER WHEN YOU LET SOMEONE 'RUN ALONG SIDE YOU'.
If you have questions, ask. If you need support, say something. IF you're feeling discouraged, don't isolate yourself...it's the worst thing you can do. If you fail, get back up and don't be ashamed to admit you made a mistake. Those mistakes can become important lessons for you and someone else coming behind you.
If you have received any benefit from this community don't forget to pay it forward. Even if it's just updating your profile to share your story...those little things mean a lot to someone who is surfing the profiles. Your story is inspirational to someone you may never get to meet!!!
Ok, I got stuff to do....love you guys! :)

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

Monica P - You Are Awsome! I've been walking quite a bit and am up to about 3 miles. My goal is after I recover from surgery to start running and riding. You inspire me! You're way down there and I'm waaaay up here but through the power of the magic box in the house I meet new friends and get totally inspired! Thank you All!
