Goal Weight??  I know most surgeons give their patients a goal weight or at least a ball park number. During all my Pre-Op appts the subject never came up most likely because I was so thrilled at being approved that I wasn’t thinking. After my surgery and at my 3 month post-op appt, I finally asked my surgeon what his goal weight was for me. When he told me, I was just so disappointed. He said 150. I am 5'4. I can remember being less than that and signing up with Jenny Craig to lose the weight. So I picked a weight for my personal goal that seemed within the normal range for my height and age on the BMI. Now, I’m worried about the bounce back where people put back on a little weight.
Should I take that into account and lower my goal weight to accommodate bounce??

The goal is nice and keeping it off is challenging.  We all have to keep active, eat the right foods and learn to balance it all.

I was way under my goal weight and even with strenuous exercise and a strict diet, my body did not like looking like a twig and sick looking so my weight has been fluctuating up and down within 10 lbs. I'm still way under my goal weight but at least a few people including me say that I look healthier.

Anyhow, expect to gain weight (everyone is different so results vary) because your body will detect where it wants to be.  Nourishing your body the right way will also play a role.

Hey there,
sounds like we are at the same level, I started out at 255 and I am 5'4, he told me goal would be 150 but I am getting close to that and feel that I still need to loose more so I am shooting for 140- but trust me I will be thrilled with 150- I guess it just depends how our bodies are framed and etc.............. keep up the great work,

With WLS you're a success if you lose 65% of your excess weight. The rest takes dedication and a whole lot of exercise and keeping one's food clean.

I started at 313 at 5' 7" Today I weight 129!!!
My doctor NEVER set a goal weight. My family doctor thought 145 was a good weight for me to be at.

I personally feel at my best and look my best at this weight. It's the lower end of my BMI. I'm not too thin as to look stringy/old in the neck/face and I do show healthy muscle tone.

I weigh every day. Avoid carbs. I eat like I'm on a healthy diet. If I notice my weight drops down, I add a bit more to my diet. If it goes up, I drink protein shakes for a few days. It's a balancing act. I also, exercise three days a week and am active in general.

I'm currently recovering from plastics so I'm really watching my intake since I can't exercise very much quite yet.

A goal weight is nothing more than a goal.. it's not programed into your body.. so you can reach it and keep going!  I wouldn't worry too much about it... it's just a number..  It's all up to you!!!  I think the goal my surgeon gave me was 180..  my lowest was 138..  and I leveled out and am somewhere in the 140s..  I don't keep track, I just make sure my clothes keep fitting!

My surgeon gave me a goal weight of 140 and I had thought 135. So, we are in the same area at least. As you can see on my tracker I am on my way.
It's been 16 years I thinks since I was at my very best weight 138 I would usually be 150 and always wanting to lose 20 pounds.. We'll see what ever looks and feeels the best. In a pair of jeans. I haven't wore jeans in 10 years or so. They are just too uncomforible when you obese.

Thank you for the responses. I just don't want to look back and feel I didn't take advantage of the early stage to get as low as possible - so that if I gain back a little (not that I plan to) its ok.
Accepting my surgeons goal of 150 and gaining back 5 lbs is very differnt than pushing to reach 130 or 135 and gaining back 5lbs. If that makes sense????  I need a nod saying push for your goal as long as its healthy.
I hope this makes sense ?
